About BLACKOUT TATTOO

Since 2005, Tattooer Rob Kelly has been driven by the core belief that tattoo art is more than a book of tired designs and worn clichés. The soul of BLACKOUT Tattoo is custom design, professionalism and singularity. Each tattoo is as unique as the person carrying it, and that is just as it should be.

Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

“Stop with the aggression — you’re pissing me off and I’m about to throw you out of my shop.” Yes - those were Rob Kelly's words to me before I decided I could not proceed with him. I had a very disappointing experience that ultimately led me to walk away and forfeit a deposit, purely because I no longer felt comfortable proceeding. At the initial consultation, I clearly explained that I am very particular about design and, based on prior experience, prefer two appointments — one to review designs and only later to proceed with the tattoo after discussing it with my wife. I was explicitly reassured that nothing would be tattooed unless I was 100% happy. I also asked about timing, and the discussion clearly indicated that reviewing sketches and the actual tattoo would be separate steps. We booked a follow‑up appointment (after agreeing he would prepare "several" designs), which I understood to be for reviewing sketches. At no stage did I agree to be tattooed that day. At the appointment, he showed me two very rough designs (no shadings or any variations of the design) and we began discussing amendments. When I clarified that I would not be getting tattooed that day — as I wanted

I cannot recommend Maria & her beautiful studio highly enough. I was immediately put at ease (having my first tattoo) by her warm friendly nature and professionalism. The studio was immaculate & clean, and Maria explained every part of the process, going as far as showing me the sterilised needles in their unopened packets. I had a design which she replicated and with her experience & artistic talent made it even better. I absolutely love my tattoo and the whole experience was perfect. Thank you so SO much Maria xxxx

I am beyond happy to have found this studio. I traveled all the way from Berlin, Germany to Hong Kong to fulfill my dream of getting my logo for the martial art Wing Chun tattooed, due to the 100% tradition and roots. Here, it was realized with superb support and rapid execution from one day to the next, complete with precise directions and constant contact. The very friendly and competent artist Ms. Marjung was incredibly empathetic, offering a thorough consultation. Everything was explained in detail, and the hygiene was absolutely top-notch. The tattoo was executed so precisely and with minimal pain that I could cry with joy. I will be forever connected to this studio and am so proud of it. I can recommend it to everyone. A thousand thanks to you, I love it!!!!

I’ve been lucky enough to have a few pieces done by Rob and he’s the best artist I’ve ever worked with. He’s got a knack for getting the design just right and will work with you until you’re happy. He has a light touch and works quickly, but perfectly. I’ve left Hong Kong, but whenever I visit I make sure to book in with him. He’s truly skilled and the banter is also on point. Can’t recommend Rob enough when it comes to getting yourself the tattoo you envision.
