Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays.

I stayed here almost a year ago but decided to write a review while planning my second visit to HK. I definitely won't be staying at this hostel again. Pros: Good location and the staff generally seemed nice Cons: Cockroaches. I notified staff twice and both times we were given a different excuse. One of them was that the bathroom window was left open. We're six people sharing the tiniest bathroom, how can we not open the window? Speaking of tiny bathroom, the room was also tiny. Two bunk beds squeezed in an L shape into a room. Each bunk bed is three beds, with the bottom ones just being a mattress on the floor. I felt sorry for the people sleeping there, especially given the cockroach situation. That also means the middle bunk beds are right at eye level, and the top beds are high up. With no curtains to block out the light or for privacy. Given the room is so tiny, you inevitably wake up and come face to face with someone standing in the room if you're in the middle bunk. The lockers inside the room are small, so you can't secure anything bigger than a backpack. Some men accidentally managed to come into our female-only room as well. Overall, it's livable - just know what you're

Hard not to find a hostel in an apartment block but this one's good around £20 a night welcoming staff and clean and relaxing lobby/reception with kitchen and chill out area for guests to use. The building is well secure with key cards. The rooms were clean the air con is very cool felt like 🏴 haha. Beds comfort was a 6/10 it's just a foam pad. great location and I even had a nice window view

Worst Hostel Experience — Bedbugs + Gaslighting + Zero Accountability 🚨🪳 I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Check Inn HK was unacceptable from start to finish. During my stay, I started getting bites on my legs. At first, I assumed they were mosquito bites — which is exactly why bedbug infestations often go unnoticed initially. Only after leaving and doing further research did I realize the bites were consistent with bedbugs: multiple bites, clustered patterns, and appearing over time. I contacted the hostel immediately and requested a refund, explaining the situation and my concern that I may have unknowingly brought bedbugs with me to my next accommodation — which is honestly one of the worst fears when traveling. Their response? Immediate denial. They told me they could “100% ensure” there were no bedbugs because: * The room is “always occupied” * No other guests had reported anything * Their cleaning team had “checked” This is deeply frustrating because anyone familiar with bedbugs knows: * Bites can appear **days later** * Not everyone reacts immediately * Early infestations are **very hard to detect** * Other guests may not realize or report it ye
