When choosing a restaurant, check whether the menu shows prices and the service charge, whether you need to book, and whether there are vegetarian or children's options. Book wedding and birthday banquets months ahead.

Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. Sham Shui Po is part of the Sham Shui Po District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Sham Shui Po is known for the electronics and second-hand stalls of Apliu Street and the fabric and button shops around Ki Lung Street and Yu Chau Street, where many older shops still prefer cash.
