Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Hate to use comparison from over 20 years ago last time when I was here. My uncle used to bring me here all the time in the late 90s and every shop was open. I went around noonish yesterday and noticed a lot of closed shops, so I thought maybe they just open later. Came back around 7pm at night and more shops have opened but soon realized there's a lot of vacant stores. You'll mostly find modern video games with maybe a couple vintage ones, some toy shops, phone repair, old music CDs/tapes, Pokemon TCG and a handful of claw machines there. I wouldn't set your expectations too high, but if you're in the area definitely check it out.

I still remember the good old days when I came here after school in the 90s. Tenancy was near 100%, mostly selling games, collectibles, CDs and souvenirs. In my most recent visit in 2026, tenancy seemed to have picked up, with less claw machines. I am happy to report that the long running CD stores are still there, as well as the game store that occupies the space at the base of the stairs.

People say it's abandoned, and there are indeed a lot of empty stalls, but the ones that remain are very interesting to explore. I was hunting for old games, primarily for the 6th generation, and the selection in other arcades like Wan Chai Computer or Golden was severely lacking. But here in 188 I found this little stall that has a huge selection of old games and video along with a bunch of vintage memorabilia.

This place is abandoned. Only a few cell phone accessory shops remain. Better to go to Wan Chai Computer Centre

Sure you will find some special "asian only" edition for your Switch or PlayStation. Lot of little shops and good prices.
