Hong Kong's supermarkets, convenience stores and wet markets each have their role: convenience stores are mostly open 24 hours, supermarkets usually from morning until about 22:00, and wet markets are busiest in the morning and early evening. Since the end of 2022 plastic shopping bags cost HK$1 each, so bring your own; Octopus and e-payments are common, but not every market stall accepts them. Market stalls are freshest in the morning and may cut prices before closing in the evening; bring a bag and small change.
Google lists the opening hours as daily, 06:00–20:00. It opens every day of the week. Arrangements may differ on public holidays, over Lunar New Year and when a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is in force, so call before making a special trip. You can call 2834 7729; a phone call is the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or how to get there. More information is on its website, fehd.gov.hk.

Causeway Bay is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Causeway Bay is packed with malls and department stores and is very crowded at weekends; nearby Victoria Park hosts the Lunar New Year fair.

Good local food on the second floor of the market. They have air conditioners so that’s quite comfy to eat at here. The menu is all wrote in Chinese but you could use google translate to get the meaning. Here can pay by cash so don’t forget to bring it if you want to try.

Bowrington Road market and cooked for center serves the community around the causeway bay area. Coming here gives you a glimpse of real Hong Kong life. You can get fresh fruits and vegetables here, flowers and meats and fish.. On the top level is a cooked food center which is like a food court.

Bowrington Road 🛣️ Cooked 🔥Food Center has a full floor of cooked food stalls. Come evening, 🌆 the place transforms into this massive, massive eating place. (See my photo 📸 and video 📹) A simple plastic sheet drapes the tables, take your seat on stools and out comes the menu. 📝 Location : Take the MTR Train 🚇 to Causeway Bay, take exit F2 and it will be a short 5 mins walk 🚶♂️from there. Located above a wet market, I must admit I have only been here in the evenings to feast but not during the day. Stalls & Staff : As a tourist 🕶️👒, I actually have no idea as I’m seated amid all the controlled chaos 🤣 and I love it 🥰! I will always order from the person holding the Menu but I don’t know which stall he / she is from. But also by walking around, I can see only a concentrated row doing ALL the cooking 🥘🍳. So it’s all by the same few chefs 👨🏼🍳? Somehow the food will always come and payments will be done. 🤷♂️ *Head for the lift, that’s where the queue starts. Wait there for them to assign you a table if you can. Food : This is the epic level 🤯 of street food. The dishes are cooked over a huge fire 🔥 giving it what we call “Wok Hei” or “breath of the wok” This gives the Chinese 🇭🇰d

A very nice glimpse into local HK life, seeing how residents do their morning grocery shopping. It’s not your typical supermarket, especially the stalls outside. A pleasant walk overall and a great way to experience the real Hong Kong vibe

Fresh food, live seafood and cheap - Bowrington Road Market and Cooked Food Centre (鵝頸街市及熟食中心) offers an authentic slice of old-school Hong Kong that blends local market charm with no-frills street-style dining. Nestled under the overpass near Causeway Bay, the wet market is bustling with fresh produce, meat, and seafood vendors catering to both neighbourhood residents and professional chefs. Upstairs, the cooked food centre transforms into a haven for local food lovers. Diners can expect traditional Cantonese dishes served hot and fast—stir-fried clams with black bean sauce, roast meats, seafood noodles, and wok-fried vegetables are popular staples. The place may not be air-conditioned or spotlessly clean, but that’s part of the experience. It’s loud, slightly chaotic, and filled with character. Prices are affordable compared to the trendier eateries in the city, making it a favourite among budget-conscious foodies and adventurous tourists. Some reviewers mention the environment can feel cramped during peak hours, and English may not be widely spoken, but the warm hospitality of the stall owners often bridges the gap. For those seeking a taste of traditional Hong Kong, Bowrington
