Hair, beauty and massage salons are best booked ahead, especially at weekends and before festivals such as Lunar New Year. Ask for the price before you start, as some treatments cost more depending on hair length or products; read the terms carefully before buying a prepaid package and consider whether the shop is likely to stay in business. The weeks before Lunar New Year are the busiest for salons, as many people traditionally get a haircut before the new year, so book early.

Opening hours: daily, 10:00–20:00. It opens every day of the week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. Phone: 2709 3128. Kwun Tong is part of the Kwun Tong District in Kowloon. Kowloon is densely packed: Nathan Road runs north from Tsim Sha Tsui towards Prince Edward, lined along with its side streets by shops, restaurants and upstairs businesses, and most places are a few minutes' walk from an MTR station. Mong Kok's street markets, Sham Shui Po's electronics and fabric streets and Kowloon City's Thai restaurants are familiar landmarks for shopping and eating. Many Kwun Tong industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios; note the building name and floor, as access can differ in the evening and at weekends.
