Sheung Wan is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Sheung Wan's Des Voeux Road West and Bonham Strand West are known for dried seafood, ginseng and herbal shops, which are busiest before Lunar New Year.

The only words necessary to describe this establishment are “somewhat above average”. First of all, the array of char siu rendered me both euphoric and disappointed depending on the individual piece consumed. Some pieces were beautifully caramelised while others were somewhat bland and entangled in tendons. The rice, egg, and accompanying siu mai were above average. The doneness of the egg was perfect — slightly viscous yet not overcooked. The siu mai was typical of any street food vendor, but had a generous amount of chilli flakes. Secondly, the store attendant was sufficiently courteous and patient with customers, taking orders efficiently. Lastly, the environment of this take-out only establishment was satisfactory in cleanliness and aesthetic appeal. Overall, for the price point, this was a filling and sufficiently prepared meal.

Loved the food at Wow Charsiu, really delicious with authentic flavors. The service was quick and professional, though it could be even better with a smile or two. Prices are very cheap, making it a perfect spot to grab a tasty meal on the way home from work. Great value for money and definitely worth a visit!

the bbq pork / charsiun is decent but is lacking in overall flavor, char, sweetness, etc. meat appears to be cut into chunks and then cooked. very different cooking style and end product; in the second photo, comparison of wow charsiu (left) vs traditional charsiu (right) 2.5/5 ordered grande (HKD 120) portion (stated as ~600 grams on the menu) but weight including paper container (probably about 10 grams) was only 564 grams. that's almost 50 grams underweight, an inexcusable and significant amount! -1 star perhaps their fusion charsiu products may taste better. visit(s): 20230213

Wow Charsiu is a casual place on Hillier Street in Sheung Wen, dishing up simple, street-food version of a the popular local char siu (bbq pork) served in a bowl with rice. They have a few indoor seats but this is mostly a take-away and delivery place. Opening hours are 11.30am to 8.30pm daily (closed on Sundays). Menu is very simple, you order your Char Siu preference and base of rice, rice & veg or salad. I recently ordered the spicy charsiu with plain rice and found this to be a pretty good, casual lunch meal. The bowl was packaged well and delivered in just 14 minutes after ordering. The pork had an expected light sweetness and a bit of spice. I did expect a spicier serving based on reviews of this place but didn't find mine to be particularly hot. Otherwise, it tasted pretty good. Overall, this was an interesting and rather decent food to try, something good for lunch if you're interested in trying a typical Cantonese favourite served up in a different, modern way.

A modern charsiu place made its debut in Sheung Wan a month ago. I've passed by last week and didn't visit due to a long queue then decided to beat the crowd and stopped by earlier this time to try their 4-layer charsiu rice. I've noticed at the shop that you can scan their QR code and order online to skip the queue. The slow-cooked charsiu was tender and juicy, even better when you mix the runny egg with the charsiu and the rice! Portion wise I personally think it's right on spot as I was satisfied (usually not the case) after the charsiu rice and the squid ball. Looking forward to return for the citrus charsiu and the spicy charsiu rice soon.
