Sham Shui Po is part of the Sham Shui Po District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Sham Shui Po is known for the electronics and second-hand stalls of Apliu Street and the fabric and button shops around Ki Lung Street and Yu Chau Street, where many older shops still prefer cash.

After spending the past few years overseas, every return to Hong Kong feels like a long-awaited reunion with the food I've missed the most. Today, I finally made my way to Sham Shui Po and treated myself to the famous rice noodle rolls at Hop Yik Tai. I've eaten so many wonderful dishes since coming back, but surprisingly, this simple plate of steamed rice noodle rolls has been my absolute favorite so far. The silky texture, the fragrant sesame sauce, the rich sweet sauce, and just the right touch of chili blended together perfectly. Sometimes, the most unforgettable food isn't the most expensive or the most luxurious—it's the humble local classics that bring back the strongest memories. If you're visiting Sham Shui Po, don't miss this place. Simple, authentic, and absolutely delicious. It reminded me why Hong Kong's street food is so special.

Hop Yick Tai is a wonderful little spot for classic Hong Kong local snacks. The rice rolls were really good — tender and delicious, making them the highlight of the meal. The beef balls were okay, but the fish balls and pig skin were very good, packed with flavour and great texture. The iced soy milk tasted good and was a refreshing drink to go with the food. The service was full of human warmth, with staff who were genuinely friendly and attentive. The space has been newly renovated and is well-lit, though it is a little bit cramped. The only downside is that only cash is accepted. Overall, this is a great place for authentic, affordable local eats with a cozy, welcoming vibe.

I feel this place is a bit overhyped, but to be fair, it was my first time trying Chee Cheong fun with sesame sauce and it was kind of mind blowing. The flavor combination completely caught me off guard in the best way. Oh the curry fish ball is a miss

It’s an authentic Hong Kong cheong fun. The texture is super soft and slightly chewy. The sauce combination is really the highlight — rich, fragrant, and so well balanced. It might be a little spicy for those who don’t usually take spicy food, but personally I love it so much. Everything just comes together perfectly. The fishballs are really good too — flavorful, and pair so well with the spicy sauce. One of my definitely must eat shop for my next visit!

Busy HK atmosphere, nothing bad about it. Nice and clean. Customer friendliness is still something HK people need to learn, especially in this restaurant. All the yelling, but also at customers. Seems like they have no patience at all. The food wasn't great either. The taste of their cheung fan, preserved egg and porridge was ok, but I really didn't like their meatballs and siu mai.
