Hung Hom is part of the Kowloon City District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Octopus works on the MTR, buses, minibuses, ferries and trams; heading to Hung Hom, check the street map inside the MTR station to find the nearest exit.

Want to "borrow money" from the Goddess? Try your luck at the Hung Hom Kwun Yum Temple! A beautiful, living piece of Hong Kong heritage. This Grade 1 historic temple is famous for the local tradition of "borrowing money" from the Goddess of Mercy. It’s completely free to visit and highly revered by locals. I visited on a Sunday at noon, and it wasn't overly crowded at all. Highly recommend stopping by to experience its incredible cultural atmosphere!

I came here to borrow money from the goddess. If I receive it, I must repay it by buying gold-stamped paper. But today, the ashes will be taken away first. Please grant me 3,000,000 baht within one year.

The Guanyin Temple, one of Hong Kong’s most famous and revered shrines, is well‑known for blessings related to wealth and financial fortune. Many people visit when they are facing financial difficulties or simply wish for prosperity, seeking comfort and guidance from the Goddess of Mercy.

Small temple but highly revered by both licals and tourists, asking for wealth. Highly dense smoke inside. If you are allergic to smoke, recommend to wear mask

Hung Hom Kwun Yum Temple is a quiet and spiritually meaningful temple located in the Hung Hom area of Kowloon, offering a peaceful retreat from the surrounding urban environment. Dedicated to Kwun Yum, the Goddess of Mercy, the temple is deeply respected by locals who visit to pray for compassion, protection, health, and emotional well-being. Compared to larger and more famous temples in Hong Kong, this temple feels more intimate and grounded in everyday local life. The temple’s architecture is traditional and modest, featuring classic Chinese design elements such as red pillars, decorative roof details, and carved stone ornaments. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and reverent, filled with the soft glow of incense smoke and the quiet rhythm of worshippers offering prayers. Many visitors come alone or in small groups, creating a reflective and respectful environment that encourages slow, mindful observation. Hung Hom Kwun Yum Temple is especially known among locals as a place to seek inner peace and guidance during difficult times. The presence of Kwun Yum symbolizes mercy and unconditional compassion, and this sense of spiritual comfort is strongly felt throughout the temple ground

Very empathetic and helpful staff. When you come be sure to wear modest but comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, as with every Buddhist temple there is smoke. Gets crowded on weekend. A very popular place with Thai tourists and locals. If you wish to have master’s wordings you need to get a ticket and line up for around 1 hour, depending on the time of day. Suggest you call the temple first before coming, as master is not here every day.

I went here for second time, if you were Thai the staff here would give you a Thai version direction to follow. Disclaimer: people who sensitive with incense should ware a face mask or glasses 🙂

The temple dedicated to Taosiam Buddhist duties in Hong kong. The temple is small but is very popular among worshippers both domestically and internationally. When we visited there were buses after busses dropping off internally worshippers, and the temple has poor air circulation. The smoke from burning incense was really terrible for the eyes.
