Tsim Sha Tsui is part of the Yau Tsim Mong District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. The Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront has the Avenue of Stars and the Cultural Centre, Star Ferries cross to Central and Wan Chai, and the area is full of hotels, malls and restaurants.

If you want the best experience of this ferry ride, choose a sunny day. The combination of blue skies, a slightly misty skyline, and the cool breeze as you head toward Central creates something truly memorable. Being on the ferry—especially something like the iconic Star Ferry—lets you take in the city from a completely different perspective. The views are spectacular, and every moment of the journey feels worth slowing down for.

The Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier is one of Hong Kong’s most iconic transport hubs, linking Kowloon to Central and Wan Chai across Victoria Harbour. Famous for its cheap and scenic ferry rides, it offers stunning skyline views, especially at sunset. The pier itself retains a nostalgic charm with its green‑and‑white ferries, a symbol of Hong Kong’s heritage. Conveniently located near Harbour City mall, 1881 Heritage, and the Avenue of Stars, it’s both a practical crossing and a must‑do cultural experience.

I took the iconic Star ferry from this pier, crossing the Victoria Harbour from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central. The ferry runs pretty frequently and the crossing lasted about 10 minutes, offering wonderful views of the harbour and the city skyline. Tickets are very affordable and I would absolutely recommend this as a practical means of getting from Kowloon to Hong Kong island, but also as an experience in and of itself.

The Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier is more than just a transport stop — it’s one of Hong Kong’s most memorable experiences. Catching the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour gives you unbeatable views of the skyline, with skyscrapers rising dramatically from the water on both sides. The pier itself is easy to navigate, with clear signage, ticket machines, and short waiting times. The ferries run frequently, cost very little, and the crossing only takes a few minutes — yet it somehow feels like a highlight rather than a commute. What I really loved about the pier area was all of the shops and stalls there with everything you could possibly need: drinks, foods and snacks, souvenirs, toys... and so much more. Arriving or departing from Tsim Sha Tsui, you’re right beside the Avenue of Stars, Harbour City, the Clock Tower, and the waterfront promenade, making it a perfect starting or ending point for exploring Kowloon. Affordable, scenic, and full of character, the Star Ferry is a must-do for any Hong Kong visit — simple, iconic, and genuinely special.
