Before heading over it is worth checking the hours, phone number and Google rating below, so the trip is not wasted. When choosing a school or kindergarten, look at the school profiles, curriculum and fees on the Education Bureau's website and note open days and application dates. Primary One places are allocated through the Primary One Admission System and Secondary One places through the Secondary School Places Allocation System; before applying for a K1 kindergarten place you need a Registration Certificate for Kindergarten Admission. The school year generally runs from September to July. Many kindergartens open K1 applications in the autumn, and popular schools are competitive, so watch each school's dates.

Opening hours: Mon–Fri 08:00–18:00, Sat 08:00–13:00, Sun closed. That makes 6 working days a week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. Phone: 2702 0366. Hong Kong numbers have eight digits; from abroad, dial +852 first. Its website is kdkkindergarten.edu.hk, which may show prices, details of what it offers or online booking.

No Google reviews yet, so a personal recommendation or a quick call is the best guide; many small shops still run on regulars and word of mouth.

Tin Hau is part of the Eastern District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays.
