West Kowloon is part of the Yau Tsim Mong District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Paying is easy in Hong Kong: Octopus, credit cards, FPS and e-wallets such as PayMe, AlipayHK and WeChat Pay HK are widely used, although some small shops, market stalls and hawkers still take cash only.

M+ Museum is one of the most incredible galleries you’ll visit anywhere in the world. The exhibitions are constantly changing, featuring some of the best contemporary visual art, design, architecture, and moving image collections in Asia. The building itself is a masterpiece, and the views across Victoria Harbour from the rooftop are spectacular. You could easily spend half a day here and still leave wanting to come back. If you’re visiting Hong Kong, this is an absolute must.

We went in June 2026 and greatly enjoyed the Lee Bul Exhibition. This is a top quality Modern Art museum, impeccably maintained and truly modern and pleasant to visit. The staff all speak English. The coffee shop inside the museum serves up some incredible stuff. And after you’ve enjoyed the arts here, you should also enjoy the spectacular view of Hong Kong harbour/skyline from its riverbank. Also, must note that I was pleasantly surprised to see some artwork critiquing/satirizing Communist China and Mao Zedong (see my pictures). Contrary to common western misunderstanding, freedom of artistic expressions here seem to actually be quite well tolerated?

The art here is simply terrific. We've visited a lot of modern art galleries and this is right up there with the best. Good that there is a focus on Chinese artists. And, unsurprisingly, the building (by Herzog and de Meuron of Tate Modern fame) is every bit as good as the contents. It's good value for money too, with an ticket coming in at around £19. Good food options on the boardwalk outside as well, with a fantastic view across the Harbour

One of the most beautiful museums I have ever visited. So simple with concrete walls and floors. Every corner is full of amazing. The building itself is free to walk around and already gorgeous enough. Make sure you visit the roof to check out the great view of Vitoria harbor.

M+ is one of the most impressive contemporary museums I’ve visited. The curatorial work is exceptionally strong — thoughtful, layered, and clearly built around ideas rather than just objects. The architecture of the building itself is stunning and plays a huge role in the overall experience. It’s not just a container for art, but part of the narrative — spacious, calm, and beautifully designed. The ticket is not cheap (I paid around 190 HKD), but the quality, density, and diversity of exhibitions fully justify it. There is a lot to see, and it feels substantial rather than superficial. Two exhibitions stood out in particular: Lee Bul’s show, which was powerful and visually striking, and “Things, Spaces and Interactions”, which explored how design and architecture evolve with society — very intelligent and engaging. I also appreciated the long-form video work (around 40 minutes) — this is not a museum for quick consumption. The space is very comfortable: well-organised, clean, with plenty of staff and facilities. The only downsides were the lack of free drinking water stations and limited seating in the café. I would recommend M+ to people who want to engage deeply with contempora
