Mong Kok is part of the Yau Tsim Mong District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Mong Kok is one of Hong Kong's busiest shopping districts: Tung Choi Street (the Ladies' Market) and Fa Yuen Street (Sneakers Street) are lined with small shops, and the buildings along Nathan Road hold countless upstairs shops.

Didn't have enough time in HK to visit all my favourite places but I did manage to satisfy my red bean (sil beng) mochi cravings with a pilgrimage to ming wah bakery. The taste and quality is the same from 3 yrs ago which is a testimony to their consistency. My nephew had the sponge cake which he liked. I'd still recommend this place wholeheartedly and on our visit the server was patient and very friendly considering my dodgy Cantonese. She even broke a smile which is unusual for HK standards but we were the only customers at that time. It soon changes when it gets busy😉

Ming Wah Bakery is one of my best pastry shops in Mong Kok. Located in the heart of Mong Kok, it’s just a 5–7 minute walk from Mong Kok Station. The bakery maintains its traditional appearance, which adds to its charm and attracts many visitors. I tried their signature red bean mochi, priced at 13 HKD for two pieces. The portions were larger than those of other pastries, and the red bean flavor was incredibly rich and satisfying.

Ming Wah Bakery is a beloved old-school and nostalgic bakery located in Mong Kok. Founded in the 80s, it has held on to the charm of traditional Hong Kong-style bakeries, with a simple setup. Baking was done in the back and a humble storefront in the front. The bakery is well-known for its wide variety of classic local treats such as pineapple buns, cocktail buns, sausage rolls, and their signature red bean paste pastry (豆沙燒餅). The red bean pastry is especially popular. It was soft, slightly sweet, and often sells out quickly when fresh from the oven. Many traditional shops have disappeared in the Mong Kok district. Ming Wah Bakery has become something of a neighborhood treasure, preserving the taste of old Hong Kong for both locals and curious visitors.
