Causeway Bay is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays.

I genuinely loved everything here every time I’ve went, single handedly some of the best Japanese food I’ve had in my life. Love all the people here, the vibes, the music, the food, everything!

Nanman Tei in Causeway Bay offers terrible value for money—prices are far too high for the subpar quality of the food. Their beef tongue costs HK$80 per serving yet tastes plain and has an unpleasant odd aftertaste. As a huge fan of yakitori chicken meatballs, I was extremely disappointed by theirs; it’s easily the worst chicken ball skewer I’ve ever had. The pork and lychee skewer was equally awful: the pork lacked any savory aroma and carried an off-putting gamey pork odor. Overall a letdown, would not recommend.

I m presently surprised, this must be one of the best yakitori I have ever had, but not so much the fried rice. 4.8/5 Pork belly with scallions, everything was right in this skewer. Well flavoured and charred on the outside, tender and juicy inside. 4.8/5 Pork large intestines (sauce), they are evenly spaced on the skewer and a little crispy outside and chewy inside! Amazing flavours. 4.5/5 Pork large intestines (salt), if I didnt have a comparison with the salt one, I would have liked this. 3.9/5 Chicken heart and kidney (a little unfair comment as it was sitting there for a bit while I had the rice), taste great but I have had hearts that were so soft on the inside - this was a little dry and hard. Kidney was good, crunchy. 2.5/5 Garlic angus beef fried rice, rice was way too mushy, I prefer the clearly defined grains kind. It was also slightly bland and angus beef was overcooked and tough. Overall, I really liked the ambience and skewers.

Place was packed on a Monday night and I was glad I made advance reservation (on that day itself!). Atmosphere was boisterous and the tables were small and placed so closed to one another you can hear the entire conversation of the adjacent tables. Expect to wait for your food as they painstakingly grilled each stick. I was expecting them to have a set dinner but no…you have to order ala carte…which may get a bit confusing because there were so many varieties. However the wait was worth it! The beef tongue was unlike any tongue I’ve eaten. I’ve cooked tongue before and I knew how hard it was to get this texture: tender and juicy and not flaky! It was amazing. Thinking back I should have ordered another stick. Oh, don’t forget to dip gently into the salt flakes provided. That’ll add another dimension to your taste bud. Love the pork wrapped in lychee. Some people can’t stand the use of fruits in savoury dishes but I’m an exception. The sweetness of the lychee blended well with the tender pork cube. The other outstanding dish was the chicken wing. Crispy skin outside, tender meat inside. It was easy to get it wrong. I’ve tasted many versions where the meat was overcooked. However it
