Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Khalsa Diwan Gurudwara Sahib (Sikh Temple) is a beautiful and welcoming sanctuary in Wan Chai that serves as a cornerstone for the Sikh community and visitors alike. It is highly regarded for its peaceful atmosphere and the incredible sense of inclusivity it offers to everyone who enters. The temple is famous for its Langar (community kitchen), where free, delicious vegetarian meals are served to all visitors regardless of their background or faith. Following a major renovation, the architecture is stunning, featuring a bright, modern design with traditional elements that create a serene environment for reflection. Visitors often highlight the warm hospitality of the volunteers and the soul-soothing kirtan (devotional singing) that can be heard during prayer times. It provides a unique cultural experience in the heart of the city, offering a quiet space to learn about Sikhism or simply enjoy a moment of tranquility.

Beautiful exterior during my visit (but that was removed on the next day). I stayed at the hotel next door so took time to pay here a visit. I have been to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, and another Sikh Temple (gurdwara) in NSW Australia. Honestly this one is very much less informative. Anyway i still respect it as a religious place and its openness to visitors. Didnt try their food as i already had my breakfast.

That sounds like such a heartwarming experience! Staying at the Emperor Hotel in Hong Kong and discovering the nearby Gurudwara must have felt like a divine coincidence. Doing darshan and enjoying langar prasad with Indian food so far from home truly is a blessing. The selfless service of the sevadars always adds to the spiritual warmth of such moments. I had the blessing of visiting the only Gurudwara in Hong Kong, and the experience was truly heartwarming and unforgettable. From the moment we entered the premises, we were welcomed with utmost respect and warmth, embodying the true spirit of Sikh hospitality and humility. Visiting this Gurudwara was not just a spiritual experience, but also a reminder of the values of sewa. We are deeply grateful for everything they did for us and highly recommend a visit to anyone in Hong Kong, whether you're part of the Sikh community or simply seeking peace and warmth. This Gurudwara is truly beautiful. The recent renovations have truly elevated this Gurudwara to be a central part of Hong Kong. This sacred place serves as a living testament to the rich history and enduring legacy of Sikhs in Hong Kong. This is also where Sikhs who were involved in the Komagata Maru incident slept and prayed before departing for Canada.

Calm, full of peace! I thoroughly enjoyed visiting despite not understanding the language and customs. Welcoming all persons regardless of faith, age, religion, race, creed, etc. Langar - or communal eating, is available to all, free of charge, daily from Mon to Sun - 4:30am to 8pm. This is the case even as COVID runs rampant in Hong Kong. Respect. Donations are not needed, but of course, welcome.
