Causeway Bay is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Causeway Bay is packed with malls and department stores and is very crowded at weekends; nearby Victoria Park hosts the Lunar New Year fair.

Officially recognized as an “Intangible cultural heritage of HongKong”. It’s an almost exclusive cultural practice, unique to Hongkong not a wide spread activity. It’s a must visit place in Hongkong🤣😄

Peak Hong Kong experience under the bridge. Known for the local culture of shoe hitting, it's quite a sight to behold.

Interesting. Aunty didn't speak any English(I didn't expect her to know) and when I tried typing into a Google translate just to confirm what I think she was saying she got bit angry and shouted at me in chinese... Not sure if i got cursed or blessed but for 50 hkd...Wished there would be some instructions what to do or write- maybe i need to do better research. Other than that interesting experience.

A very localized and cultured ritual only observed in Hong Kong. There are different forms of such in other Chinese cities, but nothing like how these aunties interpreted here in Hong Kong. The location is free to visit and observe, just be mindful and respectful as this is trusted by many Hong Kong people. If you want to participate, a small fee is listed on the board.

Hong Kongers are seizing on an ancient ritual to relieve their frustration turning to “villain hitting” to curse troublesome people just in time for Halloween 😅 to share this post. Hong Kong is a modern metropolis that’s also home to countless time-honoured traditions, a folk ritual in Hong Kong and China, primarily Cantonese people - it is on the list of ‘Intangible Heritage'. Also known as a “petty person beating,” is considered more effective on Jing Zhe the year’s first thunder according to the lunar calendar, for dispelling evil, people can pay older women who are professional beaters to place a curse on their enemies or rid of demons. Usually, located under the Ngo Keng Kiu, or Canal Road Flyover, in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong 🇭🇰 you’ll find these old ladies sitting in front of miniature shrines adorned with idol statues and incense sticks from about noon. The women wave incense sticks and murmur curses, while beating paper effigies - somewhat like a voodoo doll, which they’ll beat loudly and repeatedly with an old shoe. The practice is supposed to help dispel evil and is followed by a blessing to protect you from further harm. It’s a surprisingly cathartic experience even f
