Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

An extremely smooth experience — a fine example of Hong Kong operating at its most efficient.

I came to the eMPF service center to resolve an issue that was of medium-level complexity. Janet C was very patient and cooperative during our appointment and I am very thankful. Although I had filled out a form incorrectly, we were still able to get it submitted digitally, and she walked me through the steps. There were several moments where I could have been brushed off and told to leave but instead she worked through it to the end. Thanks!

I worked on getting my MPF money on grounds of permanent departure from Hong Kong for more than a year. I followed the rules meticulously. I sent in my first application in the summer of 2025. I should have received my money in September, just after my employment at HKBU ceased. My application was rejected on the grounds of a rule that was never included in the instructions—no applying until your employment ends. Then they delayed for several weeks, refusing to acknowledge that I was not employed at HKBU anymore, although HKBU had told them. Then they rejected me a couple of times on the grounds that I had left Hong Kong in June, and I had to explain repeatedly that I was on paid leave and had a family of 10 to move to my home country. Eventually I applied two more times. They rejected one application because I used a passport number; that was my one mistake in this absurd saga. After my second application I had to wait until December 29 before anything was done, and until January 18 before anyone would tell me anything. At that time I learned that eMPF ignored my instructions to electronically transfer to my home country bank. Instead they mailed a cheque—in Hong Kong cur

The most useless customer service I have ever had the misfortune and displeasure to deal with. Any and all communication with them is pointless. You will submit an important form to them, just for them to get back to you with some random excuse as to why it couldn’t be processed weeks later, prompting you to have to submit a new one and never hear back from them again. Their favourite thing to do right now is telling people that their signatures are missing or incorrect as a reason to reject completely valid requests. I really wonder if anyone is actually working for this abysmal company. File a complaint with the MPFA instead to get issues with eMPF sorted.

Appalling service from the empf company. Any opportunity to be obstructive, difficult and officious they'll take it with relish. You can expect your experience to be painful, drawn out and full of downright nonsense. They are not there to help you and are clearly creating (an awful lot of) work for themselves, perhaps their jobs are on the line, perhaps its the toxic culture, but it's the customer who ends up the loser.
