About 紅蔥頭

紅蔥頭, a Western or Italian restaurant in Sham Shui Po, is at 九龍深水埗Dragon Centre, 6/F, 601C. Before heading over it is worth checking the hours, phone number and Google rating below, so the trip is not wasted. The address puts it on an upper floor of a building (an "upstairs shop", very common in Hong Kong), so note the floor and unit number; lifts can be slow at busy times, and some older buildings only have stairs.

Many Hong Kong restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill, and tipping beyond that is optional. Popular places fill up at lunchtime and on weekend evenings, so book by phone, WhatsApp or a platform such as OpenRice; some set a time limit or a minimum spend. Most offer both dine-in and takeaway, and Octopus, credit cards, FPS and PayMe are widely accepted, though smaller places may take cash only. Many Western restaurants offer weekday set lunches that cost less than dinner; mention any food allergies when ordering.

Google lists the opening hours as Mon–Fri 11:45–22:00, Sat–Sun 11:30–22:00. It opens every day of the week. Arrangements may differ on public holidays, over Lunar New Year and when a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is in force, so call before making a special trip. You can call 2361 0813; a phone call is the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or how to get there.

It has a Google rating of 3.3 out of 5 from 272 reviews, which is on the low side, so read the most recent reviews before you go.

Sham Shui Po is part of the Sham Shui Po District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Sham Shui Po is known for the electronics and second-hand stalls of Apliu Street and the fabric and button shops around Ki Lung Street and Yu Chau Street, where many older shops still prefer cash.

Its a perfect place to have a little gathering with friends and family

I used to wander around Dragon Centre often as I lived in the neighborhood. Today I revisited this place and a lot of new shops and restaurants have opened. Café MED is one of the few old restaurants, a cozy HK style steak house with nostalgic vibes. The restaurant wasn't too packed as it wasn't dinner time yet. As a starter, we ordered escargot to share. Soft escargot, served with mashed potatoes which formed a layer of delightful crust on the sizzling plate. Gotta try their signature steaks and we picked sirloin and rib eye with black pepper sauce. The steak menu came with borscht, garlic toast and a drink. Large portions. Thick cuts. The steaks weren't over-tenderized like most local steak houses and still maintained a meaty texture. Fries were served on the side of the plate so they wouldn't become softened by soaking up the sauce and meat juice.

We came here on Saturday afternoon. A lot of families were dining there. The restaurant is cozy. We ordered two set lunch - pork chop and rice with onion sauce, and chicken and french fries with black pepper sauce with a drink and soup. The quality of the main dish is normal. The fries were hot enough, but the portion of rice may not enough for man. The soup was russian soup and it seemed a bit spicy for me. I like the bear icon on the cup. It's attractive. And there's also a big dolly bear near the entrance of the restaurant. Can take picture.

We had 2 styles of French Toast. The style with chocolate syrup was deep fried. Was ok but a little too deep fried for my liking. The caramel cinnamon with ice cream was much nicer in my opinion. Still, a good afternoon tea.

Good place for eating steak in local cooking style. Would give four stars if service could be improved (Edited: upon recent visit, service improved and staff are found to be more friendly).
