Sham Shui Po is part of the Sham Shui Po District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Sham Shui Po is known for the electronics and second-hand stalls of Apliu Street and the fabric and button shops around Ki Lung Street and Yu Chau Street, where many older shops still prefer cash.

Food is ok. Environment is nice. It was a rainy weekday and 14:30 when we arrived. The restaurant has two floors. Didn't see any customers except us on the ground floor. Didn't see the staff bringing food upstairs either. We waited 30 minutes for the food. I did see 2 drivers taking take-away orders during the half hour wait, but would not have expected to wait for so long even though there were no other customers. For some reason the staff kept talking loudly to each other for quite some time while making the food as if they were arguing. The conversation seemed to be about how to the make the food. I had no problem with it but my companion found it annoying.

Rare find in HK. Have delicious keto options. Should have visited more. Happy to be here everytime no matter for coffee, cakes, gin/liquer or food.

We walked by this restaurant many time and finally tried it. It is unexpectedly delicious with good portion. We tried Niçoise salad with tuna, acqua pazza with sea bass and spaghetti with shrimp. All are very good. We also tried their Indian Gin, which is very nice! Will definitely come again to try other dishes! 😋

So Coffee & Gin is one of the many coffee shops that have opened up in Sham Shui Po in recent years as part of the gentrification of this area of the city. Yet, this place is unique as it has some interesting history that comes along with the coffee and food served up here. Opening hours are 8.30am to 6pm (weekdays) with extending hours on 10pm on TH & Fr and later opening at 10am on ST & SN. So Coffee & Gin has fairly limited seating on the ground floor but some additional tables and stool seating upstairs as well. They have a fairly typical list of coffee drinks, other beverages and a few desserts are behind the counter as well. The crew here can prepare a selection of savoury dishes in their kitchen as well. Firstly, what makes So Coffee & Gin a cool place to visit is the property, which was a sewing machine shop that operated here for many decades, thriving during Hong Kong's industrial heyday (1950s-80s). There is some information about the building history on the front page of the menu that you can read while visiting. Fast forward to the 2020s and you find a new and modern coffee shop, operated by the grandchildren of the original founder of the sewing machine business he
