Mong Kok is part of the Yau Tsim Mong District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Mong Kok is one of Hong Kong's busiest shopping districts: Tung Choi Street (the Ladies' Market) and Fa Yuen Street (Sneakers Street) are lined with small shops, and the buildings along Nathan Road hold countless upstairs shops.

A cozy local spot for soup rice—I visited for breakfast and absolutely loved it. I ordered the three-topping option (shrimp, abalone, and scallop) for $41, and it was so good 🤤 The bowl was huge, and at first I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish it. But the soup was surprisingly light while still packed with rich seafood flavor, blending perfectly with the soft rice. It was so comforting and delicious that I couldn’t stop eating—completely guilt-free. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere. Being surrounded by locals watching the morning news made me feel like I was truly experiencing everyday life in Hong Kong.

Great congee, friendly staff, average rice noodle roll (can be smoother haha)

Good porridge available here. Visited quite late at night c.9+pm. Was looking for the tangzi porridge and the you tiao. Both were still available. Having a pipping hot porridge on a cold night was just great. The you tiao was crispy hence went well with the porridge. Service was good. The lady maning the service was accomodating. Similar to all other HK shops, sharing of table is common hence do expect that here. Cash or octopus card only.

Guy Ho Juk Shop 佳豪粥店 or Guy Ho Congee Shop This little specialized juk shop (most people call it congee or porridge) is very good. We had the pork liver n pork kidney juk and one bowl is only HK$40, so very affordable. No wonder HK people live long n healthy! Will come back next week !

Found this stall that sells very delicious porridge with yummy you tiao! Ordered Century Egg and Lean Meat Porridge, Pork Liver & “Ting Zai” Porridge (cuttlefish), plain porridge, you tiao (fried dough stick) and prawn steamed rice roll (Chee Cheong Fun). Total damage is HKD125. The porridge is pretty good especially the liver were “cleaned” very well and thus no weird taste at all! And the you tiao really goes well with the porridge. The steam rice roll is normal thus may not need to try as there’s better one else where. Watch out for the waitress who is out to “squeeze” more money from tourist. I act that I am not able to understand Cantonese and she immediately anyhow add up my pork liver porridge to an amount I cannot make up with the menu (I’m paying more not less..) And one thing.. because I’m using a HDK500 note to pay for my HDK125 bill, I’m charged additional HDK10 for “admin fee”. Sighz. Really not a good experience. But seriously, the porridge is really good.
