average dessert shop in hk 🍦 i ordered the sweet ginger soup with sesame balls and had mixed thoughts - the soup was watery compared to other bowls i’ve had and the ginger flavour was moderate. it was very sweet and not the consistency i expect. the portion of rice balls however was generous and they tasted sublime! the seats are extremely small inside and decor is below average - service is also of average speed.

On a warm night, we visited a cozy cafe 深深甜品 (Sham Shui Po). The place was bustling with locals, but we managed to snag a corner seat near the cashier. The seating was a bit simple, resembling wooden benches, and not the most comfortable, but the friendly service crew made up for it. The desserts truly blew our minds — beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. We tried their seasonal menu, featuring taro ice cream with mango and sweet potato balls, mango with beancurd, and black pearls. Each bite was a delight, and honestly, it was the best dessert we've had so far. A memorable and satisfying experience!

It was lovely. We had the traditional black sesame dessert and more modern one with tapioca and fruit. It was on a sweet side but considering many things in Hong Kong are not too sweet, occasional sweet treat is not really an issue. The interior had a lot of cool decorations which made the place look intentionally old as if you’re stepping back in time a few decades. Very nice.

Overall, the desserts are very good and homestyle at a very competitive price, however I have to say that some of the tongshui is a bit too sweet for my liking. Delightful Experience at Shum Shum: This Chinese dessert tongshui shop offers a sweet escape into a world of flavorful delights. From traditional red bean soup to modern twists like matcha custard, each tongshui is crafted with precision and a perfect balance of sweetness. The cozy ambiance adds to the charm, making it an ideal spot to indulge in a comforting bowl of warmth. The friendly staff and diverse menu make this shop a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth seeking an authentic taste of Chinese dessert culture.

We only tried three of them. A bit thin from a Chinese desserts perspective but the sweetness level is right and that is important. The aiyu jelly is the one I liked most. Price is reasonable. Old Hong Kong decor is cute but the place is a bit packed.
