Many Hong Kong restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill, and tipping beyond that is optional. Popular places fill up at lunchtime and on weekend evenings, so book by phone, WhatsApp or a platform such as OpenRice; some set a time limit or a minimum spend. Most offer both dine-in and takeaway, and Octopus, credit cards, FPS and PayMe are widely accepted, though smaller places may take cash only. Many Western restaurants offer weekday set lunches that cost less than dinner; mention any food allergies when ordering.
Google lists the opening hours as Mon–Tue 18:00–22:00, Wed closed, Thu–Sun 18:00–22:00. That makes 6 working days a week. It opens on Sunday too, like most places to eat in Hong Kong. Arrangements may differ on public holidays, over Lunar New Year and when a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is in force, so call before making a special trip. Phone: 2668 6488. Hong Kong numbers have eight digits; from abroad, dial +852 first. More information is on its website, tavie.com.hk.
Customers give it an average of 4.6 out of 5 on Google (156 reviews), a high score by any measure.
Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Central is Hong Kong's financial and business heart; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links the streets up the hill, Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo come alive at night, and the Central piers serve the Outlying Islands.

My wife and I did the tasting menu with wine pairing this week and Ta Vie is now one of our favorite restaurants in all of Asia. The food was so creative and beautifully presented. The pairings were very thoughtful and perfect for each dish. Every dish was amazing but our favorites were the pasta with uni and the Hokki clam and morel mushroom stuffed with scallop dumplings. There was not a missed beat all night. The chef himself presented a few of the courses along with his descriptions of his creations. They create some of their own cocktails, teas, and coffee here and they are exquisite. And they also bring out various in house made breads that are some of the best bread I’ve had. A memorable meal in an elegant space with the perfect touches. We highly recommend Ta Vie!

To put it simply: if you were to go to only one restaurant in your life, this should be the place. The service was flawless—perfectly attentive and thoughtful without ever being overbearing. It made the entire experience feel special, and the food is just on another level. We had the seasonal tasting menu, and every single dish was a standout. It's hard to pick, but the eggplant salad with "Mizu" octopus and Ossetra caviar was my absolute all-time favorite—just an unforgettable start. But every course that followed was just as impressive. The crispy blue lobster paella had such a deep, rich "Rouille" sauce. The house-made fresh pasta with Hokkaido uni was incredibly decadent and perfectly cooked. The "Taraba" king crab with brown butter sauce was a perfect pairing. The quail pie with porcini felt so comforting yet sophisticated. Even the signature flower tea was aromatic and felt like its own special course. To finish, the apple and pink guava sorbet was beautifully refreshing, and the crispy éclair with pumpkin cream was a dream. This is my first trip to Hong Kong and Ta Vie will be the highlight and live on forever in my memories.

As seasoned gourmets and with Ta Vie holding three Michelin stars, our expectations were extremely high – and they were fully met. After a brief challenge finding the entrance inside The Pottinger Hotel, we were warmly welcomed by Ms. Hiromi Takano. Her kindness and attentiveness set the tone for the evening, and this spirit of hospitality continued throughout, both from Ms. Takano and from Chef Hideaki Sato himself, who personally visited our table several times to explain dishes and greet guests. The seasonal tasting menu, consisting of eight courses, follows a classical French sequence while highlighting Japanese product quality and refined craftsmanship. Each dish was impeccably executed, with a precise hand and subtle seasoning that allowed the outstanding ingredients to shine. The opening dish, geoduck, immediately showcased the restaurant’s philosophy: pristine product, delicate flavors, and perfect technique. The second course – a “paella” of blue lobster encased in an ultra-thin crispy rice shell – delivered the first true highlight: creative, textural, and delicious. The homemade pasta with Hokkaido uni followed, the sea urchin luxuriously creamy and of exceptional qua

Everything about this restaurant reflects what one expects from a place holding three Michelin stars. I’ve been here six times already, and each new menu is a perfect 10 out of 10 — consistently exceptional. The atmosphere is discreet and refined — it feels private, composed, and quietly elegant, without a hint of showiness. The service is of the highest standard, polished yet never intrusive. It’s particularly noteworthy that the Chef personally greets guests and genuinely seeks their thoughts on each dish — a rare gesture that speaks to true hospitality. The ingredients are rare and distinguished, brought together in combinations that reveal remarkable taste and restraint. This is not a place for casual tourists — it is unmistakably a destination for those who value depth of flavour, sophistication, and culinary integrity. Unreservedly recommended to true gourmets.
