Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Central is Hong Kong's financial and business heart; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links the streets up the hill, Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo come alive at night, and the Central piers serve the Outlying Islands.

A true piece of old-school Hong Kong charm, Tai Ping Koon in Central delivers a nostalgic cha chaan teng experience that’s getting harder to find these days. The restaurant carries a vintage, no-frills atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time — simple, slightly worn, but full of character. The food leans heavily into classic Western-style Hong Kong cuisine. Their signature Swiss sauce chicken wings are rich, savoury, and well-executed, while the baked pork chop rice comes with a comforting, old-school flavour that many locals grew up with. Portions are decent, though presentation is more traditional than modern. Service is straightforward and efficient — not particularly warm, but very much in line with the classic Hong Kong diner style. Prices are on the higher side compared to typical cha chaan tengs, but you’re really paying for heritage and history here. Overall, Tai Ping Koon is worth visiting at least once for the experience. It’s less about fancy dining and more about appreciating a slice of Hong Kong’s culinary past.

New Year’s Day family dinner at Tai Ping Koon, the iconic 160+ year-old Hong Kong spot famous for soy sauce Western fusion! We celebrated January birthdays with epic set menus and extras – think creamy soups, juicy Swiss chicken wings (absolute must-try, sweet-savory perfection!), crispy fried fish, tender steaks, and that insane baked crab shell. Don’t skip the Swiss sauce beef ho fun or the massive fluffy soufflé that melts in your mouth. Retro vibes, huge portions, around $30-40/pp. So nostalgic and yummy – you gotta try the highlights! 😍

They are the real deal. It's one of those places you must really do your research, there are a lot of wrong things to order, but the right things are seriously good I got the roasted pigeon. Some say they're one of the best in HK, and they would be right. For this style, pure salty, they have epitomised the salty smoky complex aroma. It's a little salty, yes, but still ok. Breast isn't the best but that's not too unexpected, the rest of the pigeon is executed very well, and it's slightly crispy except for the breast skin. The coconut pudding is off menu, texture is fine, the passion fruit sauce tends to overpower the coconut. It's okay Roast pigeon is must try
