About The Mandarin Barber

The 1930s’ Shanghai-inspired Mandarin Barber offers a warm and intimate atmosphere reminiscent of a private gentleman’s club. This rarefied space offers a place of serenity in the heart of the city and a team of barbers, some of whom have over 40 years’ experience, offers the city’s gentlemen a range of personal grooming services. The Mandarin Barber also offers lifestyle treatments for men, including the hotel’s acclaimed Shanghainese Pedicure by Master Ben Cheung, massages, facials and waxing. For those looking for discretion, a private VIP room is also available.

The Mandarin Barber is a barber in Central, Central and Western, at 2/F, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, 5 Connaught Rd Central, Central, Hong Kong Island. Locals and visitors alike tend to check the same things before going, so this page brings together the practical details: where it is, how to get in touch, when it is open and how customers rate it. The address puts it on an upper floor of a building (an "upstairs shop", very common in Hong Kong), so note the floor and unit number; lifts can be slow at busy times, and some older buildings only have stairs.

Hair, beauty and massage salons are best booked ahead, especially at weekends and before festivals such as Lunar New Year. Ask for the price before you start, as some treatments cost more depending on hair length or products; read the terms carefully before buying a prepaid package and consider whether the shop is likely to stay in business. Many barbers take walk-ins and online bookings; expect longer waits on weekend afternoons.

Google lists the opening hours as Mon–Sat 08:00–20:00, Sun 09:00–18:00. It is open seven days a week. Arrangements may differ on public holidays, over Lunar New Year and when a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is in force, so call before making a special trip. Phone: 2825 4088. Hong Kong numbers have eight digits; from abroad, dial +852 first. Its website is mandarinoriental.com, which may show prices, details of what it offers or online booking.

It has a Google rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 74 reviews, a strong score that points to consistently positive experiences.

Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays.

Typical guy from the US. Had a convenient barber, but often went to someplace convenient and cheap. Kept to simple haircuts that were easy to maintain. Was in HK to get some suits done and decided to go splurge on the most expensive haircut I'll probably ever have. Looked up "best barbers" in HK, did a little research, and decided to make an appointment at the Mandarin. Booked for a "master" barber since I figured I may as well go all-in if I was going to do this. The Mandarin is a beautiful hotel and I spent a little time relaxing before heading up for my appointment. The check-in process and prep was easy and I met my barber for the haircut. He didn't actually speak a lot of english but I didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted anyway, and just told him things like professional, shorter, etc. He then proceeded to use just scissors and a comb to give me a fantastic haircut. It was definitely an experience and I really loved the results. Overall I'd almost treat it as an excursion / experience as something I'd regularly do, but if you have the means (and need a haircut) I'd highly recommend it.

A luxurious (albeit expensive) experience. Great if you’re looking for a quality barber in Hong Kong

Came here for our child's first haircut. While expensive, it was a fun experience. They also provide the option for the hair cut from the children to be made into a calligraphy brush at an extra cost.

A classic British style barber with a slightly high price point. However, the atmosphere is nice and exclusive here, and you won’t be bored browsing the world-class selected goods which you can also buy here. The goods sold here change by season or so, so whenever you go there, you find the good-as-usual barber service and also some new interesting stuffs.
