Causeway Bay is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Causeway Bay is packed with malls and department stores and is very crowded at weekends; nearby Victoria Park hosts the Lunar New Year fair.

This breezy side of Hong Long is very peaceful, and not too loud. It offers a great view of Victoria Harbour, and also has some seats on the edge. It’s a great place to rest in the middle of a run, or to simply take photos and to enjoy the view. If you’re around this area before noon, I also suggest checking out the nearby Jardine Noonday Gun, which is fired every day at noon.

Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter – A Hidden Waterfront Gem in Hong Kong Nestled along the northern edge of Hong Kong Island, Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter offers a striking contrast to the hustle and bustle of nearby shopping streets. Originally built as a haven for fishing boats and vessels during typhoons, this calm water enclave has evolved into a scenic urban retreat. By day, it’s a peaceful spot to enjoy sea breezes, watch traditional sampans drift by, and take in views of modern skyscrapers reflecting in the harbor waters. By night, it transforms into a romantic waterfront, with neon reflections dancing on the waves and local seafood boats lighting up the shoreline. Perfect for a slow stroll, a cycling break, or just sitting down with a takeaway and a view – this layby isn’t on every tourist map, but it’s where the soul of Causeway Bay gently breathes.
