Hong Kong's supermarkets, convenience stores and wet markets each have their role: convenience stores are mostly open 24 hours, supermarkets usually from morning until about 22:00, and wet markets are busiest in the morning and early evening. Since the end of 2022 plastic shopping bags cost HK$1 each, so bring your own; Octopus and e-payments are common, but not every market stall accepts them. Many supermarkets deliver online orders, with delivery fees usually based on the order value.
Opening hours: Mon–Sat 09:30–19:30, Sun 10:00–19:00. It is open seven days a week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. You can call 9858 1210; a phone call is the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or how to get there. As this is a mobile number, a WhatsApp message may also work. It has a Google rating of 3.5 out of 5 from 210 reviews. Opinions are mixed but broadly steady, and the latest reviews are the best guide to what to expect.
Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Central is Hong Kong's financial and business heart; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links the streets up the hill, Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo come alive at night, and the Central piers serve the Outlying Islands.

This was a surprise and a pleasant one.. My wife and I went to Hong Kong for the weekend " Americans living in Guangzhou" And in China there are just a lot of westernized things you cannot find on the shelves at a store. With that being said, A&m hits the spot.. It's a very well stocked store carrying Western items. Everything from pistachios to peanuts to seasonings cake mixes that you would see on the shelves in America to mints that you would get at a convenience store. I was in search of Lowry season salt which was virtually impossible to find and this store had it and it was priced well. There isn't a crazy obnoxious markup which made me comfortable with my purchases and the store took tap to pay on my phone. I was in and out of the store in 10 minutes

The last time I went there was several years ago, and I swore never to return for many of the same reasons you see in all these negative reviews. But there was something I really could not find anywhere else, so I went back. I was greeted nicely at the entrance (and at checkout), they had what I wanted, the store was a bit busy with helpers consulting their employers by phone about what to buy, and that was that. Nothing negative to say -- while much of what they sell can be found far cheaper at conventional grocery stores, they do have quite a few unique USA items (including mine) for anyone willing to pay those prices. You could call it sticker shock, but nearly everyone knows this before they go, I think. Definitely worth having a look to see what they have.

A&M US Groceries is the go-to for American goods in Hong Kong. Prices can be a bit high, but the variety makes up for it—you’ll find everything from pantry staples to hard-to-find treats.

On the 28th of February 2024, I had a terrible experience at this shop I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years. I purchased a large box of "Fruit by the Foot" sweets but forgot to check the expiry date at the time of purchase. Upon arriving home, I realised that the sweets would expire on the 27th of April 2024, which was just two months away. It was impossible to finish them in less than 2 months. I contacted the shop to request a refund or exchange immediately, but the staff member I spoke to was rude and unhelpful. He claimed that the normal expiry date for the sweets was six months, which I later found out was not true. The usual expiry date of such sweets should be a year at least. As a loyal customer, I was disappointed and shocked by the staff member's response. I have been a loyal customer for so many years, and I expected better treatment. As a result of this incident, I will never return to the shop. It is important to remember that loyal customers are the backbone of any business.

Decent selection of US products, particularly the candy and snacks. Although do expect a significant mark up on products. For e.g. the Eucerin cream is listed as HK$249.9, but on iHerb you can get it for HK$108.78. The customer service is quite poor though, the staff are unable to answer questions about product availability. Oh and also make sure not to take any pictures, otherwise you will get yelled at by at least 2-3 staff. The cashier lady ran all the way to the aisle to shout "No Photos". Not sure why they have this Draconian policy. Overall an unpleasant shopping experience.
