About 北河街街市

北河街街市 is a wet market or grocer in Sham Shui Po, at 九龍深水埗基隆街333號. Locals and visitors alike tend to check the same things before going, so this page brings together the practical details: where it is, how to get in touch, when it is open and how customers rate it.

Hong Kong's supermarkets, convenience stores and wet markets each have their role: convenience stores are mostly open 24 hours, supermarkets usually from morning until about 22:00, and wet markets are busiest in the morning and early evening. Since the end of 2022 plastic shopping bags cost HK$1 each, so bring your own; Octopus and e-payments are common, but not every market stall accepts them. Market stalls are freshest in the morning and may cut prices before closing in the evening; bring a bag and small change.

Google lists the opening hours as Mon–Thu 06:00–20:00, Fri 06:00–19:00, Sat–Sun 06:00–20:00. It opens every day of the week. Arrangements may differ on public holidays, over Lunar New Year and when a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is in force, so call before making a special trip. No phone number is listed, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best starting point for directions and any contact details Google has.

It has a Google rating of 3.5 out of 5 from 1,550 reviews. Opinions are mixed but broadly steady, and the latest reviews are the best guide to what to expect.

Sham Shui Po is part of the Sham Shui Po District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Sham Shui Po is known for the electronics and second-hand stalls of Apliu Street and the fabric and button shops around Ki Lung Street and Yu Chau Street, where many older shops still prefer cash.

Food is not fresh at all and it has no help around there

Chickens are as fresh as they come. Feathers and all. They are still squawking in the cages right before being sentenced to the gallows in the back to be defeathered for someone's 醬油雞 lunch. No chicanery here. Honkies don't play no games with their food.

One of the down-to-earth markets where grassroot hongkongers get their fresh food for cooking.
