Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Central is Hong Kong's financial and business heart; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links the streets up the hill, Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo come alive at night, and the Central piers serve the Outlying Islands.

A prime example of what makes Hong Kong such a great place to explore. History beneath your feet and life left right and centre. Not staged, but real, authentic and free to visit. Just requires a bit of effort to get up the rather steep stairs and some concentration not to trip. But really cool atmosphere.

We passed by this historical street while heading to a shop near our lunch spot. Since it was near Christmas, the street was bustling with the sale of festive items like Christmas costumes and decorations. A very lively street with a good vibe.

This is a Grade 1 historic location in the centre of Hong Kong. Pottinger Street (also known as Slab Street) was built in the 1850s and is basically a stone slab pedestrian street which slopes upwards using the contours of the natural land. As such, it is uneven and a bit awkward to walk without paying attention to the steps. Regardless, it is a neat historic attraction and an interesting place to take in during visits to the Central District. Along Pottinger, you'll find a handful of restaurants as well as stalls selling accessories, souvenirs, wigs, costumes, holiday items (especially during Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival). You'll also be able to catch some street art that goes up on the building sides from time to time. Presently there is a new large scale painting of a historic streetscape view of Slab Street from the past. You can see it just south of the Wellington Street intersection.

The upper part of the street from Queen’s Road Central to Hollywood Road is laid with stone blocks and famous for selfie. The Street is also leading to the Heritage complex of the old police station and Victoria Prison: The Central Police Station Compound.
