Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Central is Hong Kong's financial and business heart; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links the streets up the hill, Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo come alive at night, and the Central piers serve the Outlying Islands.

Government House has been used since 1855 as the residence of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. It is now dwarfed by nearby skyscrapers.

if you get a chance for a tour jump for it very elegant British colonial house the tower was added during japanese occupancy complete with bauhinia garden and tennis courts. Had the chance for classical chamber music and dinner there during colonial days when patten was governor.

It would have been so interesting if we could actually see it. They’ve grown a massive bush in front of it which covers most of the view. Apart from that they’ve blocked in all the fences so you can’t even see through the either. Looks better on google images, not worth the walk up the hill.

The Government House in Hong Kong is the official residence of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. The history of the building dates back to 1851 when it was originally built as a mansion for the first Governor of Hong Kong, Sir John Bowring. It was designed in the neoclassical style by Charles St. George Cleverly, an English architect. The building was subsequently renovated and expanded over the years, with the addition of a ballroom and a banquet hall in the early 20th century. During the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong in World War II, the Government House was used as the residence of the Japanese Governor. After the war, the building was returned to the British colonial government and was used as the residence of the Governor of Hong Kong until the handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997. Since then, it has been the official residence of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. The Government House is located on a hill in the Central district of Hong Kong Island and is surrounded by a beautiful garden. The building is now a declared monument and is open to the public for guided tours on designated days. It remains a symbol of Hong Kong's colonial past and its evolution into a modern

Very nice place which opens to public a couple times per year. The closest way to get there by public transport is from Central MYR station landmark exit, walking up to St. John’s cathedral, and go through Department of Justice and enter at Lower Alberts Road. 15 minutes walk or so from MTR.
