About Chili Club

Chili Club, an Asian restaurant in Wan Chai, is at 香港島灣仔駱克道88號駱克道88號. Before heading over it is worth checking the hours, phone number and Google rating below, so the trip is not wasted.

When choosing a restaurant, check whether the menu shows prices and the service charge, whether you need to book, and whether there are vegetarian or children's options. Restaurants must hold a licence from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, usually displayed inside. Lunar New Year, Mother's Day, Christmas and New Year's Eve are peak booking times, and some restaurants offer set menus or add a surcharge on festive days, so ask ahead. Spice levels at Thai, Vietnamese and other Asian restaurants can usually be adjusted, so say so when ordering.

Google lists the opening hours as Mon–Fri 12:00–15:00 and 18:00–23:00, Sat 12:00–15:00 and 18:00–22:00, Sun 12:00–15:00 and 18:00–23:00. It opens every day of the week. Lunch and dinner are served in separate sessions with a break in between. Arrangements may differ on public holidays, over Lunar New Year and when a typhoon signal No. 8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is in force, so call before making a special trip. You can call 2527 2872; a phone call is the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or how to get there.

It has a Google rating of 4.2 out of 5 from 306 reviews. Opinions are mixed but broadly steady, and the latest reviews are the best guide to what to expect.

Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Having been run since 1986, Chili Club is a legendary 40-year-old restaurant offering classic Thai comfort food. You may not spot it easily since it is located on the first floor of King Tao Building on Lockhart Road. After reaching the restaurant, you may not be impressed by its basic, low-key, and casual setting. Yet, it is the quality of food that has made Chili Club a long-standing favourite in the neighborhood. The prawn with chili curry is definitely a vivid demonstration of the kitchen's mastery of balancing rich flavors. Specifically speaking, it offers a delicate balance of a slight sweetness with a powerful aromatic punch. The sauce is thick, savory, and creamy strongly resembling the famous Singaporean chili crab sauce profile. Another outstanding dish is the famous Steamed Fish on a Stove Tray with lime, chili, and garlic. It arrived at our table in a fish-shaped platter set over a flame, allowing it to simmer continuously. If you are also a fan of a restaurant with unpretentious vibe serving generous portions and highly authentic, reasonably-priced food, Chili Club is worth your further exploration!

I love this place, a very authentic Thai restaurant in the very central area (wan chai) in Hk island so I don’t have to travel all the way to Kowloon city.

Service was attentive and not intrusive, food was good, we were told it was going to be spicy but there was no heat at all, they toned it down for us. The yellow curry was great but our other dishes were average. A good safe, reasonable place for dinner, nothing exceptional.

Was recommended by friends as they have known the owner for over 20 years. We basically took there advice on recommended dishes aaa one plate came at a time. Each well made starting with coconut drink.

I have been visiting Chili Club for over 15 years, and it never disappoints. I have been in large groups, as a country and solo. The service is always great, the Thai menu is extensive, and prices are very reasonable. Excellent Thai food in Wan Chai.
