Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong is one of the city's classic properties. I recently stayed here while returning to HK for board meetings. Since it had been a long time since my last visit, I half-expected a dated feel and that slightly damp room smell common in older hotels. Boy, was I wrong! The hotel must have undergone a major renovation. I was immediately wowed by how bright, fresh, and modern the room felt upon walking in. It was spacious, offering a lovely view of The Peak. The refreshment bar was excellent, generously stocked with water, tea, coffee, and a Nespresso machine. While my room didn't have a bathtub, the bathroom was spacious and well-designed, featuring a separate shower unit and toilet. For dining and drinks, you're spoiled for choice. I joined my fellow board members for drinks downstairs at the Lobster Bar, which beautifully balances a historic, old English pub aesthetic with quiet elegance. An added bonus is the hotel’s direct connection to Pacific Place. It’s one of the very first shopping malls I ever visited in Hong Kong. Staying here and picking up fresh fruit from the mall's supermarket brought back some truly wonderful memories. Highly recommended!

My review is praise for the lifeguard who rescued a young boy (maybe 4yo) who was left unattended for a short time by his father at the pool today. I was tending to my own two kids when I heard the splash of the lifeguard and saw him lift out the boy who was ok but clearly a bit shaken. Super quick actions and staff had a talk poolside with the boys father. As a guest I thought this was handled professionally and smoothly. Well done.
