When choosing a café or dessert shop, look at whether prices are shown, whether plant milks or less-sweet options are available, and whether there is a time limit on seats. Many open seven days a week, but some small shops take a weekly day off; for cakes or large orders of pastries, calling ahead is the safest bet. If you plan to work or study in a café, check for power sockets and any seating time limit.

Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. You can call 3619 4840; a phone call is the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or how to get there.

Sham Shui Po is part of the Sham Shui Po District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Sham Shui Po is known for the electronics and second-hand stalls of Apliu Street and the fabric and button shops around Ki Lung Street and Yu Chau Street, where many older shops still prefer cash.

The owner of this restaurant was so incredibly nice and the food was absolutely delicious! We were trying to find a place that did vegan French toast and came across this cafe. Have to say that is definitely delivered. Additionally, this restaurant is part of a charity delivering veggie meals to people in need! So why not eat an amazing meal and also have a positive impact on society :)

I had the char siu and pineapple burger and was surprised how good it was! I'd been when they first opened a while ago and it wasn't great, but recently they've really upped their game! I enjoyed the super thick and juciy cuts of seitan char siu and the grilled pineapple was pleasantly sweet. My wife and friend both had the Club Sandwich and were very satisfied... You get a good portion for a reasonable price! The decor is really fun but it's no longer the star of the show, the burgers and sandwiches are worth going for alone.

I recently checked out Joy's Cafe, a vegetarian restaurant in Prince Edward, about a 5-minute walk from the MTR (Exit A). When you walk in, you’ll notice the place is covered in toys and action figures which makes it Instagram-worthy! When we walked in, they gave us a Chinese menu. But they have an English one too. You just have to ask. One of the staff, Shaan, spoke perfect English and helped us with the order. We got a couple of set meals (main + dessert), but the portions were a little small, so we ended up ordering another main to share. I loved the creamy portobello and mushroom cashew alfredo. The other mains were okay, but had a ton of salad. One was a Pakistani curry with vegetarian mutton and Tibetan flatbread, and the other was a japonica rice roll with fried soybean roll in BBQ sauce. The actual curry and rice/soybean rolls were pretty tiny, though. The highlight was desserts! Their lemon tart was amazing – raw, vegan, and still bursting with flavor. The coffee tofu cake was alright, but I think it would have been way better with some chocolate (like a tiramisu) or just a bit more sugar. We came for late lunch and I think that’s why a lot of desserts were sold out.

Love the quiet atmosphere, and fairly spacious. All vegan food. Saturday lunch time pretty quiet. We tried the fried tempeh burger with fries, tofu basque cheesecake (not too sweet), and french toast. All very simple and good! Restaurant had some cute animal-cruelty awareness material for kids.

Mixed feelings. I found Joys Cafe on HappyCow and, given then high reviews, I was very excited to come here for lunch. I had the avocado burger and a lemonade and, in general, the food was ok. The service was good too, friendly and efficient. The decor of the restaurant is quite original with lots of toys displayed everywhere. On the negative side, they only accept cash payments which is very inconvenient and, quite frankly, unusual in 2024. Secondly, they don't have the menu in English (they said it's because they changed it recently so they didn't have the time to translate it), and thirdly, the air conditioning is really strong which makes it unpleasant to sit for long. It really feels like a freezing cell. Mixed feelings about this place, as I said, but I would definitely give it another chance in the future.
