Located in the heart of Sham Shui Po, this newly opened teppanyaki restaurant greets diners with a façade that exudes quiet opulence—an understated confidence that hints at the experience to come. The Toriumi Yama Teppanyaki Dinner for Two” ($1198) is a signature set designed to impress, offering a curated selection of seafood-focused dishes anchored by live abalone, lobster, and foie gras. The meal begins with a sesame-dressed salad, light and nutty, functioning as a gentle palate opener. It transitions into a sashimi quartet—expertly sliced cuts of ika (squid), konbaku (root white fish), madai (sea bream), and buri toro (yellowtail belly). Each piece is presented with a recommended tasting order, allowing the natural sweetness and umami of each fish to build progressively. The sequence, from the lean, clean flavours of the squid to the rich, fatty yellowtail belly, is clearly thought through and remarkably balanced. The live abalone* cooked à la minute on the teppan, is first splashed with sake, releasing a fragrant steam that locks in its saline character. The sear creates a crisp golden crust while maintaining a moist, springy texture within. It’s a deftly executed preparati

Sister and mum invited us for teppanyaki lunch before we left for Australia. Four of us ordered one lobster set for 2 and one abalone set for 2. Both sets included salad, miso soup, sashimi of the day and cod fish for each of us. They’re all fresh and nice. The lobsters and abalone were cooked to perfection. The lobster was very juicy and delicious, the abalone was soft and tasty. The fried rice was yummy too. Watching the chef cooking is what I enjoy having teppanyaki. We all enjoyed the food and it’s good price too for 4 of us with such nice seafood. It’s a little gem in that area. If you like watching the chef cooking, remember to mention it when you make your reservation and do arrive on time!
