Many accept Octopus, credit cards and e-wallets, and some run loyalty schemes or pre-orders; birthday cakes and festive boxes (mooncakes at Mid-Autumn, for example) usually need ordering in advance, a few days ahead on popular dates. Dessert shops are liveliest in the evening and some stay open late; ask for insulated packing for frozen takeaways.

Sham Shui Po is part of the Sham Shui Po District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere. Sham Shui Po is known for the electronics and second-hand stalls of Apliu Street and the fabric and button shops around Ki Lung Street and Yu Chau Street, where many older shops still prefer cash.

So good for value desserts! (Mango Pomelo Sago) This classic Cantonese treat arrives overflowing with ripe, golden mango chunks and glistening pomelo citrus sacs suspended over a thick, silky mango base. The purée delivers an intense, fragrant tropical sweetness that coats the palate, smoothly tempered by a drizzle of evaporated milk. Every spoon yields a delightful interplay of textures—the supple yield of soft, juicy mango cubes contrasting with delicate, chewy sago pearls that roll smoothly across the tongue. (Mango Grass Jelly) Offering a clever fusion of herbal tradition and tropical flair, this dessert pairs dark, translucent grass jelly with a lush crowning layer of mango purée, fresh mango cubes, and pomelo. The bottom layer of grass jelly brings a cooling, silky texture with a subtle, earthy herbal note. (Purple Dream Taro Balls) A visually striking bowl that lives up to its romantic name, this dessert combines bright yellow mango cubes, springy purple and white taro balls, and a rich purple sticky rice coconut base. The star component is undoubtedly the taro balls, which offer an addictively chewable Q-texture that yields satisfyingl

English: We tried four desserts at Tian Xi Shi Research Institute in Tsuen Wan, and all of them were really good. My top pick is the Mango Crystal Vermicelli, which has a fresh mango flavor and just the right sweetness. The Taro Sago with Small Rice Balls was also excellent, with very smooth taro paste that feels almost like ice cream. The Durian Mango Coconut dessert was a pleasant surprise, as durian and mango worked surprisingly well together. The Taro Balls Dessert was satisfying too, with a nice balance of texture and sweetness. One important tip: these desserts are best eaten fresh, because the small rice balls become hard after refrigeration the next day. #TsuenWan #HongKongDessert #MangoDessert #TaroDessert #DurianDessert #DessertReview #HongKongFood
