Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Brought us here by a Thai friend, but sadly none of us were impressed. Presentation is good and portions are decent overall, except for the signature boat noodle bowl, which is tiny—save some broth if you plan to order extra noodle refills! The noodles themselves were the highlight (thin, smooth, and perfectly chewy), but the broth and toppings weren't special. We also tried Karn's fried rice with Wagyu strips, the meat was dry, and completely overcooked. The sticky rice with the Thai Phoon beef was mushy and soggy. For four people sharing two boat noodles, Karn's fried rice, Thai Phoon beef, a chive cake snack, and two drinks, lunch came out to $500. Sadly we left to hunt for comfort food somewhere else right after.

Came here today around 2pm for a late lunch with 2 friends. Great vibes, great food, great service. Vibes: We got a table next to the full glass wall and in the hot summer day in HK, it was a bit warm, but doable. My friend said reminds her the temperature in Thailand! The space between tables is good, unlike other shops in Wanchai where it is tight and elbow to elbow. Food They are flavorful, think adjusted to HK taste (reduced salt). We ordered the below: - chives cake: MUST order! Definitely a surprise for us. It's chewy and the chives taste stands out. Not oily at all. - my personal favorite among these dishes we ordered. - fried squid - MUST order if you like seafood. Thin batter, fresh crispy squid with light spicy dip. - pork jowl som tum (pork neck & pork skin) - the pork neck is delicious and moist with a light scent of char grill. The side papaya salad is refreshing with the right level of spice and fish sauce. The portion of sticky rice is just the right balance. - this is one of my friends' favorite dish among our order this time. - fish sauce cabbage - MUST order! It's so flavourful, they added some crispy fishes on top to contrast the texture. If I can c

Arrived before twelve, and there are already queue there. Waited for more than thirty mins after ordering, however, the boat noodles does tastes quite good. The broth is standard, but the beef is very tender even better than the other boat noodle shops. The meat balls are bouncy, the noodle is smooth, overall ingredients are in good quality. The fried pad Thai tastes ok but too spicy. The Thai milk tea is way too sweet that I pulled two cups of water to dilute it.

ThongSmith Boat Noodle were on another level — the soup was rich, tasty, and fresh, and I loved that you could refill the noodles. Considering the quality of the noodles and ingredients, the price felt very reasonable. The pomelo salad had a nice kick to it, with different layers of flavour that made every bite interesting. For dessert, the classic mango sticky rice was given an updated twist with fresh coconut and tiny Thai bananas, which really elevated the whole experience. The coconut milk custard pudding was also a perfect ending to my little Thai food journey. It wasn’t overly sweet, and I could really taste the fragrant pandan and coconut flavours. I absolutely loved it. The paper ordering form was a little confusing. Some parts of the format and the font size were quite small and difficult to understand at first, especially for first-time visitors. Thankfully, one of your staff members, Nana, was very friendly and helpful, which made the experience much smoother. Her service was greatly appreciated. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, especially for such a short visit to the restaurant.
