Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

The atmosphere is undeniably vibrant, characterized by a cacophony of sounds and a brisk wind that, while refreshing, is insufficient to displace one from their footing. The skyline is adorned with towering skyscrapers that exude opulence, yet the scarcity of high-quality dining establishments poses a significant drawback for a metropolis such as Hong Kong, which heavily relies on tourism for its economic vitality. Public transportation options are limited to ferries and buses, and the sweltering climate, devoid of adequate shade, can be quite oppressive. Moreover, the city showcases numerous scenes reminiscent of celebrity lifestyles; however, these spectacles often lack genuine allure and authenticity, rendering them somewhat disillusioning. It seems almost too idyllic to be real. In my opinion, while Hong Kong's bustling energy and impressive architecture are commendable, the city's shortcomings in culinary diversity and transportation infrastructure detract from its overall appeal. The juxtaposition of glamorous imagery against the backdrop of these challenges creates an intriguing yet contradictory narrative that warrants further exploration.

One of the nice promenade in Hong Kong island, with a nice view on the bay and Kowloon. It will be much nicer and meaningful when it's finished and connected to the other pieces of walking paths under construction. Statues of Cartoons and comics make the plaza enjoyable for kids.

If you want to relax or take some amazing photos of the bay, this is a good place to go. The promenade is also regularly used for photo shoots linked to the show and there is always something interest to see. Access from the Exhibition Centre.
