Unique old building, charming in its own way

Nice piece of Wan Chai history, recommend coming to have a look and also it is now a venue to promote environmental awareness on carbon footprint. The staff are friendly and nice and help us take photos. Need to reserve online but free entry. Highly recommend it if you have time to travel to Hong Kong.

This historic building is a declared monument. It can be reached after a short walk from the Wan Chai MTR station. The building is painted white and the doors and windows green. Current use seems to be an Environmental Resource Centre operated by the Environmental Protection Department.

The old Wan Chai Post Office is a declared monument building and the oldest surviving post office building in Hong Kong. It is situated at the intersection of Queen's Road East and the Wan Chai Gap Road. Today, the old post office functions as the Environmental Protection Department and offers a small museum experience for interested visitors. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm (Mon-Wed) and is close on Tuesday and Public Holidays. What you will find is tiny, L-shaped, single floor building at the street corner. The building is painted white with green-teal staircase rails, door and window shutters. You'll find a small staircase leading up to the building as well as simple colonial architecture in the building facade and pitched-roof structure. Give this attraction a quick look-see if you intend to spend time in this area of Wan Chai during your visit to Hong Kong an then continue onward with other intended sightseeing.

At time the building was post office, the external wall was without any plaster or finish we see now. Instead,.it was red brick wall. The existing finish has completely destroyed its original form which should be reinstated.
