About 茶軒

茶軒, a regional Chinese restaurant in Wan Chai, is at 香港島灣仔菲林明道地下. Before heading over it is worth checking the hours, phone number and Google rating below, so the trip is not wasted.

When choosing a restaurant, check whether the menu shows prices and the service charge, whether you need to book, and whether there are vegetarian or children's options. Restaurants must hold a licence from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, usually displayed inside. Lunar New Year, Mother's Day, Christmas and New Year's Eve are peak booking times, and some restaurants offer set menus or add a surcharge on festive days, so ask ahead. Spice levels and portion sizes differ between Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Beijing kitchens, so ask the staff for advice when ordering for a group.

Opening hours: daily, 07:30–21:00. It is open seven days a week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. No phone number is listed, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best starting point for directions and any contact details Google has.

It has a Google rating of 3.8 out of 5 from 123 reviews. Opinions are mixed but broadly steady, and the latest reviews are the best guide to what to expect.

Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

I ordered the lunch set with fried chicken cutlet and braised minced pork with half a boiled egg on top of rice, along with a bubble milk tea. The fried chicken cutlet was huge—larger than my hand—and the set also came with meat ball soup and cold side dishes like cucumber and wood ear mushrooms, which felt very generous. The portion was so big that I couldn’t finish everything, especially after the bubble milk tea, which was surprisingly filling as well. I wouldn’t say it’s cheap, but considering the portion size and quality, it’s definitely good value for lunch in Wan Chai.

Can you imagine how fresh the meat is, rotting outside of the shop during a hot and wet day, for hours, while no staff is handling these. Enjoy your meal.

Very relaxing place for a breakfast at Wan Chai. Price is reasonable and quality of food is also above average compared to HK style Cha Chaa Teng. The dinning place is clean and tidy and ceiling of dinning hall is high. Very relaxing atmosphere. Clean and decent dinning wares. The coffee is freshly breeded, creamy and smooth, quick like Japanese coffee. Tasty. Instant noodle with beef marinated with Sa Cha Sauce is nicely cooked, not like some Cha Chaa Teng just putting noodles into hot water and mixing with beef. The toast with fried eggs is also delicious. The fried eggs are creamy and tasty even better than that of from Australia Milk Company at Jordan. Will come back to try their lunch menu.

4-4.5 overall rating for this Taiwanese spot. I really enjoyed the set menu and dining experience. The tea choice was also very good with a wide selection - traditional teas (not sugary) . The pricing was very reasonable for the quality of food although the minced meat to rice ratio seemed slightly off. There isn't an English menu at the moment from what I recall.

The chained Taiwanese eatery was easy to find because it was located along a main road in the district. The place was clean and tidy, and the atmosphere was relaxing. The ceiling was very high. Decoration was modern. Order was made by writing with a sign pen on the mounted menu, which was quite conservative. Set meals were available, which was prepared quite speedy. The meat was soft, but the taste was a bit salty, which was common for Taiwanese food. Drinks were good. Price was average. Staff service was satisfactory. Electronic payment was acceptable.
