About 書湘門第
書湘門第, a regional Chinese restaurant in Wan Chai, is at 香港島灣仔駱克道68-70號. Before heading over it is worth checking the hours, phone number and Google rating below, so the trip is not wasted.
When choosing a restaurant, check whether the menu shows prices and the service charge, whether you need to book, and whether there are vegetarian or children's options. Restaurants must hold a licence from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, usually displayed inside. Lunar New Year, Mother's Day, Christmas and New Year's Eve are peak booking times, and some restaurants offer set menus or add a surcharge on festive days, so ask ahead. Spice levels and portion sizes differ between Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Beijing kitchens, so ask the staff for advice when ordering for a group.
Opening hours: daily, 11:30–22:00. It opens every day of the week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. Phone: 2528 3699. Hong Kong numbers have eight digits; from abroad, dial +852 first.
At 4.1 out of 5 on Google (220 reviews), it sits mid-table; the written reviews say more about service, prices and waiting times than the number does.
Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Good food. Especially spicy beef. All seems very fresh. Very good presentation of dishes. Entrance is not very clean, but inside is ok. Generally I do recommend this restaurant.

Nice Hunan dishes famous for the chili hot. Small shop with a few tables. Price is average and services quite alright. Food is original Hunan taste.

Small place, staff know enough English to serve you the right food, greasy floors though, but everything else was fine. The food had great flavours but most of them tasted the same - chilli. Would recommend but maybe get some noodles or rice to neutralize the spicy-ness. The coconut milk drink was great (and helps with the chilli).
