About Porch Coffee Bar

This is our pop-up shop inside of a steak house, Flat Iron Steak, opening only in the mornings Monday - Saturday for coffee!

Porch Coffee Bar, a café in Wan Chai, is at G/F, inside of Flat Iron Steak, 莊士敦大樓14-16 Johnston Rd, Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island. Before heading over it is worth checking the hours, phone number and Google rating below, so the trip is not wasted. The address puts it on an upper floor of a building (an "upstairs shop", very common in Hong Kong), so note the floor and unit number; lifts can be slow at busy times, and some older buildings only have stairs.

When choosing a café or dessert shop, look at whether prices are shown, whether plant milks or less-sweet options are available, and whether there is a time limit on seats. Many open seven days a week, but some small shops take a weekly day off; for cakes or large orders of pastries, calling ahead is the safest bet. If you plan to work or study in a café, check for power sockets and any seating time limit.

Opening hours: Mon–Sat 08:30–11:30, Sun closed. That makes 6 working days a week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. No phone number is listed, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best starting point for directions and any contact details Google has. More information is on its website, porchcoffees.com.

It has a Google rating of 4.9 out of 5 from 40 reviews, a strong score that points to consistently positive experiences.

Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Best kept secret in Wanchai - this cute little coffee shop is tucked inside Flat Iron the steak restaurant, only opens in the mornings Monday to Saturday! Their coffee is so aromatic! They source green beans directly from farmers all over the world and roast freshly in Hong Kong in their own facility. A truly farm to table experience that I loved and had to buy some beans home :)

Great hand drip coffee and other variations as well. The barista knows his craftsmanship and is providing a great service and is very polite. Food is ok, just a simple selection. Recommend to go there for coffee.

A lovely surprise! We chose this place for morning coffee because it’s just a 3-minute walk from our hotel. It’s actually a beef restaurant that turns into a coffee spot in the morning — such a nice concept. The coffee was excellent, one of the best we’ve had in this area. Highly recommend stopping by for a great cup of coffee.

One of the best coffee spot in Wanchai! Yoshi is an excellent host and brilliant barista. The Americano made by Yoshi is my favorite in HK. Aside from the nuanced flavor profile that Yoshi can extract from his beans, he also provides a large variety of whole coffee beans that are roasted to perfection- they are evenly roasted and fragrant. He also provide the most buttery and tasty baked goods (from Hokkaido)! All in all, Porch Coffee is my favorite coffee spot in HK, offering the highest quality whole beans, nuanced and flavorful coffee and tasty treats!
