Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Just a political monument with little cultural or historical value. Hong Kong’s identity and society are distinct from mainland China, and this monument does not reflect that reality. Not worth visiting.

This is one of two monuments at the Golden Bauhinia Square on the north side of the HKCEC in Wanchai. Here you can see the symbolic Golden Bauhinia monument as well as this 26 metres Reunification Monument which commemorates the Return of Hong Kong to China. The monument was inaugurated on 1 July 1999. What you see is a 1.6 metre wide pillar made up of 206 overlapping stone slabs, each representing one year between 1840-2047. There are six circular slabs within the stack that are lighter in colour. These are places in position to represent years 1842, 1860, 1898, 1982, 1984 and 1990. The flamed ring further up near the top represents the year 1997. While the capital at the top represents the long lasting strength of Hong Kong. On the pedestal, facing west, you will find an engraving of the document of the one country, two system document written by then President Jian Zemin. On the east side, you will find the English translation of Zemin's words. It is an interesting monument to see if you plan to be around this area and can be conveniently viewed while spending time on the promenade.

Nice place to watch the "Symphony of Lights" in the evening

To be honest, it's more of a political symbol than a tourist attraction.

A great viewpoint of Victoria Harbor. The other two I know are Avenue of the Star and Central Ferry Piers
