Affordable local breakfast gems in pricey Wan Chai. Wan Chai is known for being expensive, but the Lockhart Road Cooked Food Centre (駱克道熟食中心) offers great budget-friendly meals. I stopped by Ying Kee (英記) for a simple, classic Hong Kong breakfast. Location & Comfort: It’s located on the 3rd floor (3/F) of the market. Just take the central escalator straight up. I was thrilled to find that the 3/F has excellent, strong air conditioning—absolutely essential during the scorching summer days! Vibe: Don't expect fancy tableware or a glamorous environment here. Instead, you get simple, comforting, familiar flavors and incredibly fast service. The Food: Their toast is perfectly crispy and charred, exactly the way I like it! The hot lemon tea was also excellent—very rich and strong. An authentic spot for a quick and cheap meal in the area.

This is a very popular eatery for the working class, only HK$39 a dish with fresh cooked food. We ordered bitter melon and beef on rice and salty fish and chicken on rice, both a hearty meal. Didn’t see anyone in a suit and tie. What a great place. The atmosphere is full of vibes 充滿人間煙火氣息。

After 14:00 everyday , local fried noddles and rice are only $30 Hong Kong dollar. Very cheap and tasty. Well, typical local taste. The floor is slippery, and environment is very “ local “ however with this price. You don’t complain.
