Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Central is Hong Kong's financial and business heart; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links the streets up the hill, Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo come alive at night, and the Central piers serve the Outlying Islands.

I waited at the Star Ferry stop for over an hour. 3 HK City Sightseeing busses went by but none stopped at the clearly marked bus stop.

The Hop-On-Hop-Off busses with open top get you around the city on 4 lines with different routes for the night. Unfortunately H1 - the heritage route - is only one-way from Central ferry to TST ferry on the other site of the habour. When I booked on a Sunday after hotel ckeck-out after 11 am I assume I would get the first bus of line H2 which started right next to my hotel within minutes as the overview online advertised 11:00 am as the starting time for this line - for reasons unknown to me the first bus left 12:30 - in informationen only available in the app. While on lines H1 and H2 the stop announcement asks you to press the stop button if you wish the bus to stop line 3 had no such announcements and also no stop button on the upper level. I was quiet surprised when the shaking bus rushed by Ocean Park while I tried to stumble downstairs as fast as possible to make the driver aware of my intention to get off. The advantage of the citybus offer is the use of all citybus lines (not only the sightseeing lines) including Airport cityflyers for a rather good price. I paid 200 HKD for a 24 ticket.

Must try experience in Hong Kong 🇭🇰! We did the H2K bus & happy about it. The night city view from the bus was so nice. No need to pre-buy tickets if your group is small since you can pay by Octopus card.

🚍 HK City Sightseeing @ Hong Kong 🇭🇰 We boarded the H1S open‑top sightseeing bus on month May at around 11:30 AM, under the blazing sun, heading toward Tsim Sha Tsui. The first bus was overloaded, so we had to wait about 30 minutes for the next one. Important tip: The waiting area has no shelter, and during midday, it’s extremely hot. Do bring an umbrella, hat, or sunblock if you’re queuing in the sun. While many passengers opted for the open‑air upper deck, we chose the air‑conditioned lower deck—a cool relief in the hot weather. The route offered a fascinating journey through contrasting cityscapes—shiny skyscrapers, tangled neighborhood lanes, and the historic Man Mo Temple (文武庙). One memorable stretch runs alongside the iconic Ding Ding tram— letting you see both the classic double‑decker tram and the sightseeing bus sharing the same urban road in harmony. Boarding was seamless with the Octopus e‑wallet card—just tap and hop on. If you’ve got time and want a relaxed pace to explore different sides of Hong Kong, this sightseeing bus ride is a great way to take it all in.

We booked our tickets through Klook, which made the process smoother. Upon arrival, you’ll need to find the ticket booth to exchange your booking for an official ticket. Booking through Klook has the added advantage of priority boarding, saving you from the long walk-in lines. 🚌 The ride itself was decent, though we found it a bit overpriced for the overall experience. 🤑💸 If you take the night tour, the final stop is at the Science Museum in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is a nice touch, but the tour could be improved with better value for money. 😮💨
