Central is part of the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Central is Hong Kong's financial and business heart; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links the streets up the hill, Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo come alive at night, and the Central piers serve the Outlying Islands.

Very handy to get up and down the area. Also useful shelter spot when it rains. Just not the direction of travel is downhill until 10:00 a.m. then it switches to uphill. You can use it to access the former prison and jail site as well as other tourist attractions nearby such as the murals on Hollywood.

Fun little attraction in Hong Kong to get to the top. Views are nice but it’s very crowded.

The escalator does exactly what literally it is named to do. It is a series of escalators connected together to bring people upward in order to save some strength and energy. There are only a few "exits" so expect some downhill walking if you missed your street. Some limited view of the street level from one or two floors above for tourists.

It is exactly what it sounds like: a series of outdoor escalators. While it's often listed as a "must-see" attraction, let’s be real-it’s essentially a public transit tool for commuters, not a breathtaking monument. If you aren't looking to shop or eat in the SoHo area it passes through, you might find yourself wondering why it's on your itinerary. The most important thing to know is the direction of travel. To accommodate commuters, the escalator only goes downhill in the morning (6:00 AM – 10:00 AM) and only goes uphill for the rest of the day (10:00 AM – midnight). If you ride it all the way to the top in the afternoon, remember that what goes up does not come down. You will have to walk back down hundreds of stairs on foot. Finding a taxi at the upper residential levels is notoriously difficult, especially during peak hours, so unless you're looking for a serious leg workout, don't ride it to the very end just for the sake of it.

The world’s longest escalator, that makes going up the hill much more convenient
