When choosing a restaurant, check whether the menu shows prices and the service charge, whether you need to book, and whether there are vegetarian or children's options. Restaurants must hold a licence from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, usually displayed inside. Lunar New Year, Mother's Day, Christmas and New Year's Eve are peak booking times, and some restaurants offer set menus or add a surcharge on festive days, so ask ahead. Dim sum restaurants usually charge a per-person tea fee, and dishes are priced by size; weekend mornings from about 10:00 to lunchtime are the busiest, and many places give out queue tickets. Book wedding and birthday banquets months ahead.

Opening hours: daily, 10:00–22:00. It opens every day of the week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. You can call 2519 6512; a phone call is the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or how to get there.

It has a Google rating of 3.2 out of 5 from 149 reviews, which is on the low side, so read the most recent reviews before you go.

Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

Overrated siu mei food from this restaurant, and the hygiene is atrocious, the piece is reasonable, and the service is not good. Came here for lunch and there was no queue at all. The floor of the restaurant is so slippery and dangerous. The Cantonese barbecue food is below average, I ordered 叉雞飯 and the chashu is hard and difficult to bite. Price is acceptable in this area

Actually, you can walk into almost any roast meat restaurant in Hong Kong and have a superb meal. However, I was being quite critical in this review, because I'm comparing this with the many roast meat restaurants I've had in the 20+ years living in this city. Firstly, it is good value. For the roast goose and crispy pork belly rice, I paid $70 only. They were super generous with the portion too. The pork belly is really crispy and cut to huge chunks. Paired with their home made scallion oil, I momentarily forgot about my diet plans. The roast goose on the other hand was a tad dry and tough, so that's ordinary at best. It's a hole in the wall restaurant that you might easily miss, but not a bad place to stop by for lunch if you're feeling really hungry.

We spent our week in Wan Chai and it is a good try to go for restaurants run by locals. It’s a hotspot if you want to try roasts and fresh cuts in the area. If you are dining alone or with a small group it is customary to share available tables with strangers. It is indeed a unique experience in a city full of people. Everyone is in a hurry running from one place to another and restaurants like this is transitory where people stop to eat then leave immediately. Tried combination plates and HK never fails. They also serve the classic milk tea. A server will gather the order and present the slip upon exit.

$40 for a char siu rice. I was rushing to the convention center and glad I was able to eat something quickly. It must have taken me 5 minutes from sitting down to finishing the dish. Conveniently located right next to the footbridge but otherwise, nothing to write home about.
