Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The island is steep, with many streets climbing the hillside; the Central–Mid-Levels escalator links Central with the Mid-Levels and the Peak Tram runs up to The Peak. Offices, malls and old neighbourhood shops sit side by side, restaurants are packed at the office lunch hour (roughly 13:00–14:00), and with parking scarce the MTR, tram or bus is usually easier than driving.

One of the best roast goose meals I’ve had in Hong Kong. The roast goose was absolutely outstanding. I went for the goose drumstick (HKD120) and it was worth every dollar. The skin was beautifully roasted, glossy and crispy, while the meat remained juicy and tender. The highlight, however, was the sauce. Mixed with the rice, it was incredibly addictive and easily turned a simple plate of rice into something special. The beef brisket noodles were also comforting and flavorful, and the soup served alongside the meal was rich and satisfying. Every bite felt like classic Hong Kong comfort food done right. Now for the reality check: the dining area is extremely cramped. Tables are packed closely together and personal space is pretty much a luxury here. But honestly, nobody comes here for the ambiance. Come with zero expectations for the dining environment and 100% expectations for the food. If you’re a roast goose lover, this place is absolutely worth the visit

Overall Experience: Joy Hing Roasted Meat is one of Hong Kong’s well-known roast meat restaurants and a popular stop for both locals and tourists. The shop has a traditional no-frills setting, and watching the chefs prepare the roasted meats right in front of you adds to the authentic Hong Kong dining experience. Food: For a tourist, the food was pretty decent and worth trying. The roast goose was tender with a nicely roasted skin, but the real highlight was their secret sauce, which paired perfectly with the roasted meats and added an extra layer of flavor. The beef brisket noodle soup was okay—not something I would go out of my way for, but it was still enjoyable and comforting enough for a complete meal. Service: Service was efficient and straightforward, exactly what you would expect from a traditional Hong Kong roast meat restaurant. Food arrived quickly, and the staff handled the crowd well. Cost: Reasonably priced, with most rice and noodle dishes around HKD 40–60. A good value option if you want to experience a famous Hong Kong roast meat spot without spending too much.

Most reviews are good, especially for the BBQ pork. Cleanliness might not be perfect, but that’s part of the Hong Kong–style experience — not the tidiest, but authentic.

I had this place saved for a while so of course it was my first meal in Hong Kong! I arrived and was promptly seated and ordered the roasted goose over rice and a lemon ice tea. The menu offered had both Chinese and English. The staff were really friendly and the food came shortly after ordering. The staff suggested I put on some fruity gel sauce over the goose and a sauce for the rice which really added to the flavour. I was in and out but it was such a yummy dish I would come back for on my next trip !
