Popular places fill up at lunchtime and on weekend evenings, so book by phone, WhatsApp or a platform such as OpenRice; some set a time limit or a minimum spend. Most offer both dine-in and takeaway, and Octopus, credit cards, FPS and PayMe are widely accepted, though smaller places may take cash only. Dim sum restaurants usually charge a per-person tea fee, and dishes are priced by size; weekend mornings from about 10:00 to lunchtime are the busiest, and many places give out queue tickets. Book wedding and birthday banquets months ahead.
Opening hours: daily, 07:00–24:00. It opens every day of the week. Many small businesses close for a few days around Lunar New Year and may shut early or not open during typhoons and black rainstorms, so check the latest news before you set off. Phone: 2152 1108. Mong Kok is part of the Yau Tsim Mong District in Kowloon. Around Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay many industrial buildings now house offices, restaurants, gyms and studios, while Kai Tak is a newer district. Kowloon's streets are busiest in the evening and at weekends, shops keep long hours with many open until about 22:00, and the Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Tuen Ma lines plus buses and minibuses reach almost everywhere.

From a Facebook promotion video, I decided to visit Gold Garden Roasted Pig & Goose Restaurant to try their advertised lobster and Peking Duck special priced at HK$498. However, upon being seated, the staff informed us that the promotion required ordering at least one additional dish from the special menu, starting at HK$148. To comply, we chose the sweet and sour pork, which tasted acceptable but felt overpriced. When the Peking Duck arrived, we were disappointed to find only 12 pieces of duck skin with 12 pancakes, served cold and lacking the expected crispiness. The servers were clearly overwhelmed, so service was minimal. The duck meat was presented with fresh lettuce and potatoes over fried rice noodles, but again at room temperature, which diminished the experience. On a positive note, the sizzling lobster over noodles was flavorful and enjoyable. Unexpected charges added up quickly: two small plates of salted peanuts at HK$12 each and tea at HK$16 per person. What began as a promotion we thought would cost HK$498 ended up totaling HK$840. The lack of service, disappointing duck, and hidden charges left us frustrated. Despite the lobster being good, we agreed we would never

Come here to eat Alaskan King Crabs. There are many live ones here, and you should order the steamed ones to taste the freshness. I also ordered scallops stir-fried with broccoli. Very nice! The service could be better; I need to keep getting attention. Overall, I love the food.

I don’t speak Cantonese but I’m getting more accustomed to the way such older-style restaurants operate. I think they served good food (the plate is a little bigger than normal but that is the style of these 酒樓) and the service is up to the expectation that noon. The trick is that you know the signature dishes of the restaurants and you somehow know how to serve yourself for like the 80–90% part of your dining. You can safely leave the remaining 10–20% to the waitresses.
