Cafés, bakeries, dessert and drinks shops are often mainly takeaway with a few seats, and weekend afternoons are the busiest. Many accept Octopus, credit cards and e-wallets, and some run loyalty schemes or pre-orders; birthday cakes and festive boxes (mooncakes at Mid-Autumn, for example) usually need ordering in advance, a few days ahead on popular dates. Bakeries usually bake fresh in the morning and late afternoon, and popular items can sell out early.

Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays. Wan Chai mixes the office towers around the Convention and Exhibition Centre with old markets and tenement buildings, and nearby restaurants get busy during big trade fairs.

I dropped by Sour Dough on my way home from a nice walk on Bowen Road Fitness Trail. It's conveniently located at Queen's Road East and St. Francis St. in Wanchai. It has an open front which creates a really bright and comfortable space. There is a glass food display at the entrance where you can choose what bread or pastry you like. The ordering process is a bit confusing and lacking flow. You order your bread or pastry from one person behind the counter, but then have to go to the end of the counter to order your drink with another person. From a productivity standpoint, it could be improved. It's nice to have alot of employees, but payroll is one of your major costs to manage. The service personnel are very friendly and attentive. My phone battery was low so I asked where the nearest place was to rent a phone charger. The girl politely offered to charge the phone for me at the counter. Well done! I ordered a croissant. While it tasted very good and was nice and buttery, it was dark brown on the inside which I do not ususally see in croissants in other bakeries. I went to the display counter and asked one of the bakers behind the counter whether I could ask him about the croissan

The sourdough bread is wonderful! It possesses a delicate aroma and is very appealing. It felt that it is sufficient on its own and that the beef and sauerkraut is stealing the spotlight. The beef and sauerkraut is quite salty, with addition of the cheese as well.

I ordered Peanut Butter Chocolate Crown Snail and cappuccino with skim milk. Well, it cost around HK $77 with no service charge which is a little overly pricey but the service was good. I had a cappuccino with latte artThe service was excellent . The pattern of the latte was very strange. It looks like something incomplete.. I was hesitating whether I ask to change it or not but the staff just proactively change the coffee for me.

Nice surprise found on an alternate walk route. Atmosphere and sandwiches on display and I'm sold. I wouldn't in any way say service was quick, but the place was packed and everyone was really nice. The sandwich was great by non deli standards. Bread was the highlight with standard ingredients. For the price, I was happy with size and quality. Next time I pass, I'll try the turkey... Falls into my category of silly restaurants who think avocado on toast should be over $100

I wanted to save stomach real estate for lunch, but I was tempted by the offering at Sourdough...😂 Located about 5mins from my hotel, I located this bakery/cafe after my morning coffee at a coffee place nearby. Looking at the spread, it was a little tough deciding between something sweet or savoury. In the end, I decided to go for savoury as the sweet pastries looked just a tad too sweet... 😅 I asked the staff for recommendations and she pointed to the Truffle Mushroom Sourdough Pizza. Not a bad choice... I was eying that (and the Magherita pizza). The pizza is only about 10cm aide, very small and flaky crust (pastry). Great for a quick bite, not too overpowering on stomach real estate. That said, the term "Truffle" may be a tad misleading coz I didn't quite detect the taste of Truffle flavouring with each bite. Still, this was a delicious mushroom pastry, so I'm not complaining! I've passed by this cafe several times and there are always customers inside, either enjoying coffee or pastries. The ambience is relaxing and pleasant, so I'm not surprised.
