About 魚がし日本一 Uogashi Nihonichi (Central Market)
Dating back to 1989 in Japan, Uogashi Nihonichi offers an unparalleled standing sushi dining experience with a focus on affordable yet high-quality Edomae sushi. The fresh fish specialist – ‘uogashi’ means fish market in Japanese – is one of Japan’s most beloved sushi establishments. From the abundant seasonal offerings of the sea, expert sushi chefs create a variety of exquisite culinary delights, including sushi and donburi, that showcase the premium quality of the produce while adding a touch of novelty to the presentation. Sushi is ordered by the piece, as an all-day set, or as an omakase parade, while premium sake pairings and a sake Happy Hour boost the lively, casual vibe.

Uogashi Nihonichi is an absolute gem. The seafood and beef are incredibly fresh, beautifully presented. Service was friendly. If you’re craving standout Japanese food, this is the place to go!

As a long-time fan of the Cafe Deco Group and a regular visitor to Central Market, I was genuinely looking forward to trying this place, given the 4.7 rating. We visited for lunch and ordered two omakase sets and an extra donburi. The meal was reasonably priced, and the service staff were friendly. However, the quality of the ingredients did not quite meet the expectations set by the restaurant’s reputation. Several items lacked the freshness and refinement I would normally expect. The ika had a slight fishy aftertaste, the crab did not taste particularly fresh, and some of the white fish lacked the rich, buttery texture and natural oiliness that make these cuts enjoyable. Most concerning was the uni in both sets, which had an unusual odour the pieces hidden underneath were black in colour. I mentioned this to the chef immediately, and it was replaced with quality ikura. Beyond the ingredients themselves, the handling and preparation of the seafood felt fairly ordinary. The chef was polite but somewhat reserved, which made the dining experience feel less engaging. The standout dish of the meal was surprisingly the sea bream soup. It was flavourful, comforting, and easily the hi

For our 12th dating anniversary, I wanted a spot close to my workplace in Central Market—something intimate for hubby and me, with easy access to the food court and cocktail bars upstairs in case he fancied a post-dinner wine or cocktail. This cozy Japanese gem on the same floor fit the bill perfectly. My husband lit up the moment he spotted the 10-piece Omakase sushi set for just HKD 398—a steal! I’m no expert on fish varieties, but watching him savor each piece was pure joy, especially the finale: that creamy, indulgent sea urchin. The set came with a stylish handroll and delightfully crunchy seaweed that added the perfect textural pop. I opted for the Hamachi Caramelized Onion Rice Bowl, and oh, what a treat! The fresh sashimi paired beautifully with the sweet onions, while the crunchy sesame seeds scattered through the rice brought everything together in a symphony of flavors. We also shared the standout Chazuke soup—creamy, comforting, and brimming with tender fish slices. It was a refreshing twist, worlds away from the standard miso soups at other local spots. This little hidden gem turned our milestone into a night of delightful surprises. Thank you for making our anniversar

Food: I have chosen the 3 types of tuna (赤身、中拖羅、大拖羅) as my lunch. The sashimi is very fresh and the texture is really good ( the thickness of Sashimi) and it has a very balance taste with the rice (with soy seasoning). The set comes with the steamed egg, salads and misoshiru and they are all good and does the job as appetizers. CP Value: With the $100 welcome coupon, it costs around $160 after deduction and i think it is not very competitive if it is located somewhere outside central. Dining experience: Ordering by QR code as self service getting more popular in the world. The restaurant is setting up as bar table and we are able to witness how the sushi master prepare the majestic bowl but not recommending to those who would like to chat as it is quite noisy.
