Wan Chai is part of the Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. The north shore of Hong Kong Island is one of the densest business areas in the city: the MTR Island Line runs from Kennedy Town to Chai Wan, the trams ("ding dings") between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan, and many businesses trade from upper floors of office blocks and older tenement buildings. The south side is known for beaches, trails and fishing harbours such as Repulse Bay, Stanley and the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, which get busy at weekends and on public holidays.

Wanted to experience a real Hong Kong-style 大排档 inside a traditional food market, and this place definitely delivered that local atmosphere. No fancy decoration, no trendy social media setup, just good old-school cooking and a dining hall packed with locals. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. We ordered the crispy fried pork intestines and a plate of stir-fried vegetables, and both dishes were generously sized. At around HKD88 per dish, the pricing felt very reasonable, especially considering the portion size and the fact that it can easily be shared. The only downside is the waiting time. The place was completely full during our visit and we waited nearly an hour for the dishes to arrive. Service was busy but understandable given the crowd. If you’re in a rush, this may not be the best choice. But if you have time, enjoy the authentic dai pai dong experience, soak in the local atmosphere, and don’t mind waiting, it’s worth giving this place a try.

Getting the true HK experience coming here. If you expect great food, you've hit the spot. If you're looking for great service, don't be so keen on that. You will certainly have yell or go up to grab the attention of their staff. They may forget your order as well, but it's okay because that's just how it is here. Don't be shy, and just enjoy the vibes!

The chubby guy at the restaurant is very friendly and adorable. The food suits my taste overall—I recommend the rice dishes, while the fried noodles are a bit bland. The prices are reasonable.

Came to Chung Kee (中記) at the Lockhart Road Cooked Food Centre in Wan Chai for a proper local dai pai dong experience and it did not disappoint! The place has that authentic, bustling wet-market-canteen atmosphere – plastic stools, wok hei everywhere, and super friendly service. We ordered a bunch of classics and everything came out fast and piping hot. Standouts: The steamed minced pork patty with salted egg yolk (咸蛋蒸肉餅) was silky smooth, super savoury, and the runny yolk mixed in perfectly. Topped with spring onions – comfort food done right. Garlic prawns (蒜蓉蒸開邊蝦 or similar) were fresh, juicy, and loaded with fried garlic – sweet prawn meat with that aromatic punch. The claypot dish (looks like salty spicy chicken or pork with tofu) had great wok hei, tender meat, crispy tofu bits, and just the right kick of spice and onion. Other bits like crispy skin BB chicken and veggies rounded out a massive, satisfying meal. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity (our big group feast came to $810). Perfect spot for a casual, flavour-packed Hong Kong dinner. Will definitely come back – highly recommend if you want real local vibes without tourist p
